In Saint-Gelven, the Church of Saint-Juvénal and the Chapel of Notre-Dame-des-Champs offer specific points of interest for a trip focused on sacred art and architectural history.

Sacred Buildings and Historic Art

The parish church of Saint-Juvénal was built in 1904 by Jules Morvan; the church houses a statue of Saint Maudez. The Chapel of Notre-Dame-des-Champs was built in 1892 on a site believed to have previously been a pagan place of worship. Its grounds are home to a double-sided calvary dating from the 16th century. It depicts Jesus on the cross, accompanied by the Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene. For a culturally focused trip, two construction dates and an older religious depiction can therefore be considered side by side: the 16th century dates the calvary, not the chapel.

Another sacred work is the Kerdrebuil cross: it is made of granite, and the carved figures on it appear to date from the 17th century. The tentative date refers to the figures, while granite is the material of the cross.

Cultural Offerings and Time-Specific Visits

Bon-Repos Abbey was founded in 1184 as a Cistercian abbey. Its offerings include guided tours, exhibitions, artist residencies and events. As parts of the programme may change, check the specific dates before your visit. The Nantes-Brest Canal runs in front of the abbey. A tourist information office is located in the lock keeper’s house at Bon-Repos on the canal; the office provides bicycle repair kits. If you plan to use this service, check in advance whether it is available at the time of your visit.

During the European Heritage Days, the manor house of Correc is open to the public. If this house is part of your travel plans, schedule your visit to coincide with the event dates.

Trails and Waterside Scenery

The Le petit tour de l’abbaye circular trail starts at the entrance gate of Bon-Repos Abbey and is accessible to everyone. Route details may be updated; check them before setting out. Variant 3 of the Du Liscuis à l’Abbaye hiking route leads to Bon-Repos Abbey at the end of the hike and passes through the history of the village of Bon-Repos and Quénécan Forest. It is closed seasonally from 1 October to 1 March. The routes therefore differ in several respects, including their starting points, paths and seasonal restrictions.

Tregnanton is a fishing spot with a boat landing. The heights there offer views of Lac de Guerlédan; the surrounding area is characterised by heathland, gorse and striking schist formations. At Tregnanton, water-based activities and scenic views thus cater to different travel interests.

In the wider landscape, the western side of Lac de Guerlédan, with the heathland of Liscuis and the Gorges de Daoulas, lies within a Natura 2000 protected area for wild animals and plants. If this designation is important for your plans, check the current protected-area boundaries.

Coordinate your stay with the seasonal trail closure and specific programme dates.
