A neo-Gothic church, a 16th-century manor house and two easy circular walks give Pludual several concrete points of interest. The routes differ in length and walking time; the town also offers architectural details and a chapel with a maritime history.

Church and historic buildings

The foundation stone of the Église Saint-Mayeux de Pludual was laid on 7 June 1871. The church is a neo-Gothic building. Its tower combines a square shaft with an octagonal spire. Four large pinnacles stand at its base. The coat of arms of Pope Pius X appears on the tympanum of the side entrance. The tower’s ground plan and the shape of its spire are specific details that help describe its design.

Another historic landmark is the 16th-century Manoir de Périmorvan, which overlooks the town centre. The church and manor house represent different architectural styles and periods; both provide a clear architectural connection to the town’s history.

Poul Ar Ranet Chapel and maritime history

Poul Ar Ranet Chapel, also known as Notre-Dame du calvaire de Poull ar Raned, was built between 1868 and 1895. Fishermen from Newfoundland and Iceland venerated it before setting out on the Grand Banks fishery. This links the chapel’s history to seafaring, without requiring a longer route.

Items inside the chapel include a sculpture of the Virgin Mary and Child and a two-masted sailing ship offered as an ex-voto. Alongside its building history, these two motifs give the religious site a specific maritime connection.

Two circular walks for different time budgets

The Circuit de la Danse Macabre is an easy 9.8-kilometre circular walk; it takes about two hours on foot. It starts at Pludual church and passes through the countryside and bocage, reaching the vicinity of orchards. Ragosses, or pollarded oaks, are characteristic of the local bocage and are also part of Pludual’s rural character.

The Circuit des deux Chapelles is also easy and circular. It is 8 kilometres long, takes about one hour and starts at Place de l’Église in Pludual. It is considered accessible to all age groups; surface conditions may vary. In direct comparison, this is the shorter route, while the Circuit de la Danse Macabre takes more time. Check local trail conditions and the relevant starting point before setting out.

Cycling and planning your stay

Cyclists also have an option: a municipal publication from June 2021 describes the Tour du Leff as a signposted cycle-tourism circuit. It is 110 kilometres long, passes through 27 municipalities and can be ridden in full or in individual stages; the publication marks a point in Pludual on the map. As the information dates from 2021, check current route conditions before setting out.

If you would like to stay overnight in Pludual, first consider whether you want to include one of the circular walks or focus on the historic buildings. Search for hotels in Pludual for your specific travel dates and check availability for that period.
