Ploubazlanec can be explored from different perspectives: maritime heritage, historic buildings, art and protected nature. The Tour de Kerroc’h overlooks the Bay of Paimpol, while the Réserve Paule Lapicque offers signposted trails through natural habitats. Chapels and exhibitions add further cultural and historical dimensions to the area.

Maritime history and remembrance

The Tour de Kerroc’h dates back to 1873. The Mur des Disparus commemorates around 120 schooners and 2,000 sailors who went missing during cod-fishing voyages. The collections at the Musée Mémoire d’Islande date largely from the 19th century. On display are photographs, models, tools, letters, objects and sculptures related to the cod fishery. The memorial and the museum offer different perspectives: the former focuses on remembering those who went missing, while the latter explores the subject through a wide range of collection items.

The Croix des Veuves offers another perspective: it served as a lookout point for fishermen’s wives, who watched for returning schooners. The Chapelle de Perros-Hamon was built at the end of the 12th century; its side portal houses ex-votos dating from the Iceland fishing era. Local volunteers open the chapel to the public throughout the summer.

Nature trails along the Baie de Launay

The Réserve Paule Lapicque is a protected natural area open to the public on the banks of the Baie de Launay. Its eleven hectares of natural habitats can be explored via three signposted trails. The trails draw attention to the area’s habitats and offer a distinct focus alongside its historic memorial sites. The reserve also organizes public nature events, workshops and nature walks. The program may vary.

Chapels, art and exhibitions

The Chapelle Zant-Ivy was built in the 18th century and welcomes artists from a range of disciplines each year, including visual artists, sculptors, painters and photographers. Milmarin is located in the former presbytery of Ploubazlanec. Its exhibitions are interactive, engaging and open to everyone. Every summer, the BZH PHOTO festival presents an open-air exhibition at the port of Loguivy-de-la-Mer. Alongside the area’s enduring historical heritage, recurring art and cultural events are also on offer.

Take your travel dates into account

The cultural offerings vary in their schedules: the Chapelle de Perros-Hamon is open to the public throughout the summer, and BZH PHOTO also presents its exhibition every summer. Milmarin offers activities, events and gatherings throughout the year; individual program items may change. Check the specific dates of events and exhibitions before making plans. If you are looking for a hotel in Ploubazlanec, you can plan your trip around the cultural offerings that interest you most.
