In Plestan, local attractions range from architectural history and remembrance to fishing at Etang d’Hillion and visits to cider houses. If you are planning a stay here, you can match these different interests with specific visiting times and conditions.

Church and manor houses: architectural history in Plestan

The Church of Saint-Pierre is one of the oldest buildings in the commune and dates from the 16th century. Two manor houses also tell the story of different building periods. Grand Gardisseul was built around 1500; its spiral staircase is considered exceptional for the time it was built. The Manoir du Créhu dates back to the 17th century and was rebuilt and extended in the late 19th century. Both manor houses are privately owned. Their historical significance emphasizes different aspects: at Grand Gardisseul, the construction period and staircase; at the Manoir du Créhu, the later extension as well.

Another historical detail is the cemetery cross by the church. It was listed as a historic monument on January 8, 1964. The church and the cross can thus also be distinguished by their dates: Saint-Pierre dates from the 16th century, while the cross received its own, considerably later, historic monument listing.

Memorial site and remains of a Roman road

The Cimetière des Martyrs in the Bois de Boudan commemorates 31 hostages who were killed there on June 13, 1944. Remains of an old Roman road have also been preserved in Plestan. If you include these traces in your plans, check their visibility and access locally.

Etang d’Hillion: pond and fishing

Etang d’Hillion is a one-hectare pond in Plestan, managed by AAPPMA de Lamballe. It is classified as a second-category fishing water; a fishing permit is required to fish there. The pond is home to rainbow trout, roach, rudd and tench. Planning a fishing trip therefore involves taking account of both the water classification and the required permit. As fishing regulations can change, check the rules currently in force before fishing.

Cider houses and visiting times

At Maison Kerloïck, every stage of production takes place on site: from organic orchard cultivation and apple harvesting to processing and marketing. Cider-house tours with tastings are offered during the April, July and August holidays. Cidrerie Dret en Goule offers tours by request or on Thursdays in summer. The time slots therefore differ: at Maison Kerloïck, tours with tastings are tied to specific holiday periods; at Dret en Goule, they are available by request or on a Thursday in summer. Confirm visiting arrangements in advance, as they may change. Dret en Goule also sells organic farmhouse cider, an apple-cider-based aperitif and apple juice directly from the farm; product availability and opening arrangements may also change.

Plan your journey and hotel choice

Plestan has a railway stop. Check current TER services before travelling. When choosing a hotel, you can start with the purpose of your trip: is your main interest architectural history, fishing or a visit to a cider house? For activities with specific timing, visiting arrangements or a fishing permit may be relevant; check the train timetable separately for the latest information. This helps you match local interests with the relevant planning requirements.
