An art trail, a chapel steeped in history and routes of different lengths give Mûr-De-Bretagne several highlights for visitors. The Corot trail runs through the commune, while the circular route around Lac de Guerlédan has a clearly defined length of 37 kilometres. There are also seasonal sports sessions and a Friday market. When planning, it is worth keeping these offerings distinct: they differ in subject, route length and seasonal availability.
Art and architectural history
The art trail “Sur les traces de Jean-Baptiste Corot” runs through the commune, linking reproductions of his works with the places that inspired them. Jean-Baptiste Corot stayed in Mûr-De-Bretagne several times; the area’s landscapes and everyday scenes influenced his artistic work. If you want to focus on art and local history, the trail offers a tangible way to do so: its connection to Corot is linked to a route through the commune.
Another historical landmark is the Allée couverte de Coët Correc. It was protected as a historic monument by decree on 8 November 1956. Chapelle Sainte-Suzanne offers a different perspective on architectural history: it was built in the 16th century on the remains of a small castle belonging to the Rohan family. Its features include decorative patterns on the wood panelling, 18th-century paintings and altarpieces from the 17th and 18th centuries. The altarpieces—that is, the ornaments behind the altar—add another form of artistic decoration alongside the paintings and the ornamental wood panelling. The chapel thus offers a chance to consider architectural history and decorative details as distinct aspects of the cultural heritage.
Circular route and outdoor activities
The route around Lac de Guerlédan covers 37 kilometres of the GR341. If you are planning this walk, check the trail conditions before setting out. The Base Départementale de Plein Air offers a different range of routes: it is open to everyone and provides 300 kilometres of routes to explore on rented bicycles or as part of guided outings. The 37 kilometres refer to the described circuit; the 300 kilometres refer to the range of routes offered by the Base. These are different figures and, accordingly, different bases for planning.
For groups, the Base Départementale de Plein Air offers sports sessions during school holidays and in summer. These include kayaking, mountain biking, climbing, abseiling, orienteering and archery. These activities are limited to school holidays and summer; the programme may change. If you are planning a specific session, check the current programme.
Market and visitor information
The Mûr-De-Bretagne, also known as Guerlédan, producers’ market takes place on Fridays beneath the market halls. The stated hours are 4 to 8 pm; in July and August, the hours shift to 5 to 9 pm. If the market is relevant to your stay, take this seasonal change into account and check the current hours before visiting.
The Bretagne Centre Tourist Office in Guerlédan provides visitor information and is located at 1 place de l’Église in Mûr-De-Bretagne. Opening hours may change; check the current information if you are planning to visit the office.
