Kerpert combines cultural and historical discoveries with walking trails of different lengths. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Kerpert, you can plan your stay around two questions: Which historical periods would you like to explore, and how much room should walking take up? The themes range from Neolithic relics and church architecture to Cistercian history; specific trail lengths are available to help you plan your walks.

Church, Chapel and Neolithic Traces

The main construction phase of Église Saint-Pierre dates to the 16th century. The church and its ossuary were listed as historic monuments by decree on 16 February 1921. The construction phase and protected status mark different points in time: 1921 is not the year the church was built. In Kergrist Lan, Kerpert, the Chapelle du Sacré-Coeur was also rebuilt in 1874. These sacred buildings therefore have distinct construction, rebuilding and heritage-protection histories.

The Dolmen of Kéranquéré and the sacrificial stone of Roc’h Pen Darben belong to an earlier period. The dolmen is a Neolithic relic, and the sacrificial stone is also among Kerpert’s Neolithic relics. Both names refer to archaeological remains from the Neolithic period, complementing the later history of the church and chapel. If you are primarily interested in historic sites, you can focus on archaeological relics, sacred architecture or a mix of the two.

Koad Malouen Abbey

Koad Malouen Abbey was founded by Cistercians in 1142 in a heavily forested area. Its history extends beyond the individual church buildings to the history of the order. A permanent exhibition explores the abbey and the Cistercian world. The secured areas can be visited daily on a self-guided basis and free of charge. Visits are limited to these secured areas. This makes the abbey easy to plan as a standalone activity; the permanent exhibition adds a broader perspective on the Cistercian world.

Choose Walking Trails by Length

For a walk, you can choose between two significantly different distances. The Circuit trail des Sources in Kerpert is 6.87 kilometres long. The Circuit trail de l’Abbaye is around 15 kilometres; an additional loop leads to Coat Mallouen Abbey, also known as Koad Malouen. The Sources trail is therefore considerably shorter, while the longer route, with its loop, specifically includes the abbey as a destination. If you would like to include walking in your stay, this comparison can help you estimate how much walking you want to do. You can choose the shorter trail or the longer route according to how much space you want to give walking in your plans.

A Geographical Point of Reference

Near Kerscouedec, the River Le Trieux rises on the watershed between the English Channel and the Atlantic. This adds a perspective on the landscape and its waterways to the historic sites and walking trails. When planning, you can distinguish between different interests: architectural and monastic history, Neolithic remains, a shorter or longer walk, and the geography around the source of the Le Trieux. Choose the focus that suits your stay rather than feeling you have to combine every theme into a fixed itinerary.
