Saint-Pierre-Roche reveals its distinctive features in a variety of ways: at the parish church of Saint-Pierre, the focus is on architecture and religious art; at the Calvary, there is a winding path and a Lourdes grotto. Walking routes lead to viewpoints across the landscape, and there is also a mountain bike circuit, a producers’ market and cultural events. You can therefore tailor your visit to your interests, balancing architectural history, outdoor activities and events as you wish.

Churches, chapel and Calvary

The parish church of Saint-Pierre is designed in the Neo-Gothic style. Its features include a polygonal apse and a tower over the entrance portal. The present-day church replaced a Romanesque church in 1870. Inside are several gilded wooden statues of saints, as well as a Pietà. The many-sided apse describes the shape at the end of the choir; the statues and Pietà offer another way to appreciate the church’s furnishings.

The chapel of Massagettes was built around 1870. Its interior consists of a single nave with a semicircular barrel vault. These features offer a chance to observe different architectural styles: the parish church stands out for its Neo-Gothic design and sacred figures, while the chapel features a single-nave space with its vaulted ceiling.

The Calvary of Saint-Pierre-Roche can be reached by a winding path and overlooks the village church and cemetery. A Lourdes grotto with a statue of the Virgin Mary has been created in the rock at the Calvary. With its path, grotto and setting, the Calvary is a cultural and historical destination in its own right, alongside the church buildings.

Walking routes, views and mountain biking

The Les villages de Saint-Pierre-Roche route offers varied landscapes and views of the Sancy massif, including the Tuilière and Sanadoire rocks and the Banne d’Ordanches. The Chaîne des Puys and the Combrailles are also among the sights mentioned. The route starts at the car park and trailhead sign in front of the church; check local conditions before setting out.

The Le Sioulot circular route starts on the basalt plateau of Saint-Pierre-Roche. The plateau offers a viewpoint right at the beginning of the route. The two routes therefore differ in the landscapes they describe: Les villages focuses on several named viewpoints and varied landscapes, while Sioulot features the plateau and its viewpoint at the start.

The Saint-Pierre-Roche–Sioulot–Ebert mountain bike route is 24.1 kilometres long, with 681 metres of elevation gain. The first section is technical; take care when crossing the D2089. The route’s length and elevation gain, together with this specific warning about its course, help you assess the ride without overlooking the challenges of the first section. Areas on the banks of the Sioulot are suitable for fishing; local fishing rules may apply. Check them before fishing.

Market and cultural events

The producers’ market is scheduled to take place regularly in 2026. Products on offer include seasonal vegetables, bread, cow’s and sheep’s cheese, eggs, honey, beer, herbal teas and fish. If you are planning to visit the market, check the specific dates before travelling.

Le Poulailler hosts live performances, game nights, documentary screenings and public discussions. The programme may change, so checking the latest dates will help you plan. The range of events caters to different interests: you can consider an evening of live performances or games, as well as a documentary screening or discussion.

Terre de laine offers visits in summer by prior arrangement. They introduce visitors to local sheep’s wool and the French wool-making craft. Visits require a minimum of four and a maximum of ten people. If you would like to include this in your travel plans, check the booking requirements and visiting arrangements in advance.
