Cultural History and Cycling

Saint-Clément-de-Régnat offers two distinct themes to consider when planning a trip: architectural and local history, and cycling. The parish church on Place de l’Église, historic rural buildings and the fief of Cresneuil give the area’s history specific names and different dates. A designated cycling loop adds another reason to visit. If you are looking for accommodation for your stay, you can first consider whether you are more interested in the historic building phases or in a cycling route.

The Parish Church and Its Building Phases

The parish church of Saint-Clément is located on Place de l’Église in Saint-Clément-de-Régnat. Its building history cannot be reduced to a single date: the church is mentioned in the 13th century, while the apse was probably completed as early as the end of the 12th century. The portal appears to date from the 15th century; the building was extensively altered in the second half of the 19th century. A written mention, the presumed completion of one part of the building and later alterations therefore refer to different phases. This sequence makes the church a particularly interesting subject for anyone interested in the development of a historic building.

Rural Buildings with Their Own Dates

The rural buildings are also dated differently. The Ferme de Régnat at 2 rue du Vieux Lavoir was probably built in the second half of the 19th century and is privately owned. The Domaine de Bas at 1 rue du Domaine de Bas is a historic rural building complex; its present-day residence was built in the first quarter of the 19th century. The roof structure bears the year 1826. In the case of the farm, even the construction date is explicitly described as probable, while the residence and roof structure at the Domaine each have their own dating evidence. The year 1826 refers to the roof structure, not necessarily to every part of the complex. The Domaine de Bas is also privately owned. This distinction makes it easier to understand the two properties as subjects of history: they involve different information about buildings and building components, not a single construction period.

The fief of Cresneuil belongs to a different period. It was first mentioned in 1650; its residence and agricultural buildings were destroyed in the first half of the 20th century. This sets Cresneuil apart from the building descriptions of the Ferme de Régnat and the Domaine de Bas: Cresneuil’s historical context is shaped by its early mention and destruction, while the architectural details of the two privately owned properties are central. The three histories offer different ways to explore the area’s past.

A Cycling Loop with Clear Details

The Circuit de la Limagne – Villages et châteaux passes through Saint-Clément-de-Régnat. It is an easy circular cycling route covering 53.5 kilometres, with 421 metres of ascent; the stated riding time is 2 hours and 40 minutes. The route is open year-round. The figures answer different planning questions: the distance describes the length of the loop, the elevation gain describes the ascent, and the stated duration gives an indication of the time required. The easy rating adds a difficulty level to these figures. This allows the building history, with its different historical phases, and a cycling loop, with specific route details, to stand alongside one another as distinct interests when planning a trip.
