Ennezat places a clear emphasis on its religious and historical heritage: in addition to the Église Saint-Victor-et-Sainte-Couronne, there is the medieval “Champ des Juifs” necropolis and crosses made of Volvic stone. Two named walking routes complement these themes, with different distances indicated. This gives you a concrete choice between cultural sites and a walk whose length and starting point you can check in advance.

Church and fresco

The Église Saint-Victor-et-Sainte-Couronne has been classified as a Monument historique since 1840. The local name “La cathédrale des marais” gives the church a second name. Thus, a long-standing heritage classification and a local name go hand in hand.

Inside is a fresco from 1420 entitled “le dict des 3 morts et des 3 vifs”. This precisely dated work offers a specific focal point for a cultural and historical stay. If you would like to see the fresco during your visit, check local access arrangements in advance.

Archaeological site and crosses

The medieval “Champ des Juifs” necropolis in Ennezat is both an archaeological site and a cemetery. It is entirely protected as a Monument historique; it was listed by decree on 3 June 2009. The total number of burials is estimated at around 700. This gives an impression of the cemetery’s scale without turning the estimate into an exact figure. The necropolis thus complements the view of ecclesiastical art with archaeological heritage and burial culture.

The crosses of Ennezat also have a character of their own. They are made entirely of Volvic stone and are regarded as examples of popular and religious art. Here, the material and their artistic and religious significance go hand in hand. Anyone interested in local sacred art will find another way to explore the town’s heritage, alongside the church and necropolis.

Plan your walks

The “Les croix d’Ennezat” walking route is about 4.5 kilometres long and starts at the collegiate church. The “À la découverte d'Ennezat” route is a very easy 3.9-kilometre walk, taking approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. It starts at Place de l'Eglise in Ennezat. The routes are of a similar length, but the information provided helps in different ways: for the first, the name and starting point are specified; for the second, a stated difficulty level and approximate walking time are also given.

When choosing what to focus on during your visit, you can distinguish between the themes: the church and fresco offer an artistic perspective, the necropolis an archaeological one, while the crosses highlight their material and popular religious art. The walks are a separate planning consideration. If you want to combine a particular route with a specific cultural site, check the route beforehand.
