When choosing accommodation for a stay in Méallet, your plans can help guide your decision: would you rather focus on buildings and their history, or include hikes in your itinerary? There are specific differences in both areas. For the buildings, the focus is on construction, features and heritage protection; for the routes, starting points and difficulty ratings help you choose.

Buildings and their history

The Viaduc de la Sumène lies partly within the municipality of Méallet. It was completed in 1893 and has granite masonry piers and steel spans measuring 78 metres. The different materials and stated span give the structure a distinctive character. Since 28 December 2006, the viaduct has been listed as a historic monument.

At Château de Montbrun, heritage protection covers the entire building. The listing dated 26 January 1998 explicitly includes the terraces and interior fittings. Particular attention is therefore given to the scope of protection: it applies not only to the building as a whole, but also includes these features.

Église Saint-Georges dates from the 12th to the 15th century and has a bell gable with four arches. Inside is a 17th-century high altar topped by a gilded wooden altarpiece. The period of construction, bell gable and features offer different points of interest when viewing the church. It is open every day throughout the year; check the opening information again before your trip.

Hiking: starting points and difficulty levels

The Calupeau hiking route starts at the car park opposite Méallet town hall. It is 17 kilometres long and rated as a moderate hike. Access is free, and the route can be walked every day throughout the year. Chamois are often spotted along the section by the Marilhou gorges. The length and difficulty rating provide two different points of reference for planning; the section by the gorges also adds a specific natural feature to the choice of route.

The Rando des Milans starts at the car park opposite the town hall, behind the church. It is rated as an easy hiking route and can be walked every day throughout the year, with free access. The two routes therefore differ in their ratings: Calupeau is moderate, while the Rando des Milans is easy. If difficulty is an important factor in your choice, you can compare these ratings directly; Calupeau also has a stated length of 17 kilometres.

For your travel plans, you can first decide whether you would like to focus on buildings and their history or go for a hike. Among the hiking options, the ratings offer a clear basis for comparison, while Calupeau can also be assessed by its length and the section by the Marilhou gorges.
