Le Lioran offers a ski resort, marked circular trails, a marmot-watching excursion and other activities. When choosing accommodation, it is worth first deciding what you want to focus on during your stay: days on the slopes, a trail with a stated walking time, wildlife watching or additional activities. Altitude, route length, time estimates and participation requirements help distinguish between very different plans.

Ski resort and arrival

The Le Lioran ski resort has 43 runs with a total length of nearly 60 km. Its altitude ranges from 1,160 to 1,850 m. The number of runs, total distance and altitude provide different points of reference for assessing a ski-focused stay; seasonal operating conditions may vary. Le Lioran SNCF railway station is at the foot of the ski resort. Seasonal shuttle arrangements may also vary; check them if a shuttle is part of your arrival plans.

Circular trails and a summit destination

The Tour du Plomb du Cantal leads to the highest point in the Cantal département. There is an orientation table at the summit. The Boucle de Font d’Alagnon is a 3.4 km blue-marked circular trail, with a walking time of about one hour. You can complete it on foot, by mountain bike or with an all-terrain stroller. Weather can affect access.

The Vallée Alagnon is a 13.9 km blue-marked mountain biking loop in Le Lioran. The differences between the two routes can help you choose: the Boucle de Font d’Alagnon combines a shorter distance with an approximate walking time and several ways of getting around; the Vallée Alagnon is the longer mountain biking loop.

Marmot-watching excursion

The Les Marmottes du Plomb du Cantal excursion offers the chance to observe marmots and learn about their behaviour and way of life. Binoculars and a spotting scope are provided. The excursion is listed for 2026; dates may change. Check the dates before making the activity a fixed part of your day’s plans.

Other activities

The Tyrolienne Lioran Express offers a 1,200-metre descent along the Baguet chairlift. Lioran Aventure offers nine treetop courses, accessible from the age of three; operation is weather-dependent. These two activities therefore involve different types of experience and conditions to consider.

The Enquête Nature Harold et la lettre mystère is suitable for two to four players aged six and over, provided at least one adult accompanies them. It lasts 2 to 2.5 hours. The stated timeframes can be compared as practical planning guides: about one hour of walking for the Boucle de Font d’Alagnon, compared with 2 to 2.5 hours for the Enquête.

The Centre de balnéothérapie Kaï-Lan offers a balneotherapy circuit with an activity pool, sauna and hammam. This means that, alongside ski runs and circular trails, visitors can also choose a nature excursion, treetop activities or a wellness circuit as different focuses for their stay.
