Saint-Pierre, farmhouse cheese and a high vantage point overlooking the Ossau Valley give a trip to Sévignacq-Meyracq three specific points of interest. The village brings together culture, local produce and trails through meadows, forests and rolling countryside. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus on architectural history, farm products or getting out into the countryside.

Church, Château and Local History

The parish church of Saint-Pierre has been listed in the French inventory of Monuments historiques since 16 October 1997. It was rebuilt in the early 17th century. Château d’Etigny, the former lay abbey of Sévignacq, adjoins the church. The château and its park sit on a hill. An old Castera, probably once stood there, keeping watch over the Ossau Valley. For Saint-Pierre, the dates mark two different points in time: its rebuilding in the early 17th century and its listing in the inventory in 1997.

Farmhouse Cheese and Visits

Ferme de la Borde Munné in Sévignacq-Meyracq makes farmhouse cheese from pure sheep’s milk on site and offers farm tours. Check the arrangements for visits in advance. Ferme Lanouté makes farmhouse cheeses from pure sheep’s milk, cow’s milk and mixed milk, as well as Greuil. Farm-gate sales take place daily from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Product availability may vary seasonally; check access and availability before setting out.

Ferme du Vallon raises Basque-Béarnaise sheep and Tarine cattle. Their milk is made into tommes, cheese and dairy products; visitors can learn about the farm, but should confirm access before travelling. The farms have different specialities: Borde Munné combines pure sheep’s cheese with tours, Lanouté offers several types of milk and Greuil, while Vallon’s farm profile includes animal husbandry and processing.

Views, Hike and Cycling Loop

Sévignacq-Meyracq lies on a terminal moraine and is one of the first viewpoints over the Ossau Valley. From the three crosses above the village centre, the view stretches across the rolling foothills to the first slopes of the Pyrenees; visibility depends on the weather.

The “Les trois croix” route follows former shepherds’ paths through meadows and forests to Sainte-Colome. It is 4.2 km long and rated as an easy hike. Trail conditions and waymarking may vary; check both before setting out. The “Piémont ossalois” cycling loop passes through Sévignacq-Meyracq and along the perimeter wall of a château. The difference is clear when choosing between the activities: “Les trois croix” is an easy, 4.2 km hike to Sainte-Colome; “Piémont ossalois” is a cycling loop through the village and along a château wall.
