A 9-kilometre circular trail, a rose garden with nearly 500 varieties and a neo-Gothic church whose paintings cover almost the entire building give Baleyssagues a range of reasons to visit. Local attractions include outdoor activities, gardens and tea, art and seasonal visits. The choice of which ones matter most may also influence when you travel.

Experience nature in two ways

“Baleyssagues, la balade des Riquets” is a 9 km circular trail that starts and ends in Baleyssagues. The route is rated easy for hiking, horse riding and mountain biking. It passes through vineyards, as well as orchards of Ente plums and hazelnuts. The easy rating applies to all three activities; the route remains a 9 km circuit.

Domaine Les Hauts de Riquets offers a different kind of nature experience: a guided exploration through vineyards, fields and wooded areas. Natural features are explained along the way. In spring, there is a chance to observe wild orchids. Baleyssagues is one of the communes in the “Réseau hydrographique du Dropt” Natura 2000 area.

The circular trail has a defined length, circuit format and rating for three activities; the guided exploration focuses on explanations of natural features along the way. You can choose based on the activity you prefer or whether you would like explanations along the route.

Church, murals and rose garden

The Église Notre-Dame in Baleyssagues is a neo-Gothic church dating from the late 19th century. Paintings by Giovanni Masutti cover almost the entire church; the painted ensemble dates from 1937–1938. The church’s construction and the date of its decoration therefore offer two distinct points of reference for a visit.

On 22 September 2025, the tourist information office stated that the Église Notre-Dame was open year-round by prior arrangement. Confirm your appointment before visiting.

The Jardin de Boissonna has held the “Jardin remarquable” designation since 2009. Its rose garden includes nearly 500 different varieties. The garden’s tea room serves tea with homemade pastries. This brings together the rose collection and a food offering in one place.

Seasonal visits and local produce

The hazelnut cracking facility at Château La Grave Béchade can be visited from October to April by prior arrangement. At Domaine Les Hauts de Riquets, the offer includes a tasting of its wines, products from the morning harvest and local produce.

To choose when to visit, you can compare two different seasonal experiences: in spring, there is a chance to observe wild orchids; from October to April, the hazelnut cracking facility can be visited, but only by prior arrangement. Plan your visit around which of these seasonal experiences matters more to you.
