Saubusse brings together thermal waters, the Barthes shaped by the Adour, and heritage ranging from a medieval church to a bridge dating from the late 19th century. There are also circular walking trails of different lengths and a section of the Scandibérique heading towards the Basque Country. This gives you concrete options for choosing between thermal baths, nature, outdoor activities and architectural history.

Thermal water from the La Raja spring

The Saubusse thermal baths are supplied by the hot La Raja spring, whose water is stated to be at 39°C. The Massage Landais combines a body scrub and massage under a shower ramp through which thermal water flows at 38°C. Corn cobs and cotton flowers are also part of the treatment. The two temperature figures refer to different things: 39°C for the spring water and 38°C for the water flowing from the ramp.

Church and bridge on the Adour

The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Saubusse was built between the early 13th and 15th centuries. The church’s harmonium is listed as the oldest in the Landes département. The Pont Saint-Jean is also part of the architectural heritage: its seven-arch bridge has connected the two banks of the Adour since the late 19th century.

Barthes and circular walking trails

The Barthes of Saubusse are wetlands shaped by flooding from the Adour and home to flora and fauna typical of this habitat. These include horses, little egrets, herons and storks. The landscape thus combines distinctive wetland features with diverse wildlife.

Two circular walking trails start in Saubusse and differ in length and duration. The moderately difficult “Circuit de la grande barthe” is 9 km long and takes an average of 2 hours and 30 minutes. It runs alongside the Adour for almost five kilometres and also follows the Ruisseau de l’Esté. The stretch there is considered a habitat for numerous Barthais horses and a rich variety of birdlife.

The also moderately difficult “Circuit du quartier thermal” is an 11.3 km circular walk with an average duration of 3 hours. It starts in Saubusse and combines the discovery of the Barthes’ natural heritage with architectural heritage. Compared with the 9 km trail, it is 2.3 km longer and takes half an hour more on average. Route details may be updated seasonally, so check the information before setting out.

Cycling and an audio walk

For cyclists, a section of the Scandibérique passes through Saubusse towards the Basque Country. It offers a way to discover this characterful village and its distinctive heritage in the Landes. Cycling this route provides a different way to experience the area from the two circular walking trails.

“Vira & Vasa” is an audio walk for children aged 5 to 11 and their families. The fictional episode can be listened to at home or on site; you can do the walk on site. Check whether the programme is available before your trip.

Getting to the thermal baths

The Saubusse thermal baths can be reached via the A63, exit 3, or the A64, exit 6; roads then continue towards Saubusse. Check the route before setting off.
