The Courant runs through Sainte-Eulalie-En-Born, linking two lakes with very different areas: Lac de Biscarrosse-Parentis covers 3,600 hectares, while Lac d’Aureilhan covers 340 hectares. Visitors who choose this destination will find plenty to enjoy during a stay by the water, in nature and exploring the village’s history.

Water landscapes and getting your bearings

As it flows through the commune, the Courant extends for 8 kilometres and has an elevation drop of 14 metres. Its connection between Lac de Biscarrosse-Parentis and Lac d’Aureilhan gives the water landscape a clear geographical link. At the same time, the two lakes are easy to distinguish by name and area.

The village centre is 3.5 kilometres from the lake and is connected to it by a cycle path.

The local natural environment includes marshland inhabited by coypu and grey herons. Small canals flow into the lake. The river link, marshland and canals are distinct aspects of Sainte-Eulalie-En-Born’s water landscape—an excellent starting point if you would like to focus your stay on nature and water.

Nature activities and time by the lake

The “Symphonie des oiseaux” activity combines birdwatching with listening and a playful introduction to birdsong. The focus is not just on identifying the birds, but also on experiencing them through sound. It suits visitors interested in birdlife, while other activities place greater emphasis on the variety of the landscape.

At the southern end of the lake, there are activities to discover biodiversity. The “Entre courant et forêt” circular trail stands out for its varied fauna, flora and landscapes. Both offer a closer look at nature, but with different areas of focus: biodiversity in a specific part of the lake here, and variety along a circular trail there.

The Forêt domaniale de Sainte-Eulalie is another natural feature of the area. The Vélodyssée passes through this forest on its stage between Parentis-en-Born and Mimizan-Plage.

At the beach opposite the municipal campsite, swimming is supervised by two lifeguards every year during the summer season. This seasonal supervision is a practical point to consider when planning a summer stay by the lake. The lake port has two basins for pleasure boats and a jetty for anglers. Fishing permits for Lac de Sainte-Eulalie-en-Born are available from the port authority, where you can also find out about navigating the lake.

The church and village history

The village church brings together older elements and the story of its reconstruction: work began in 1958, while the 13th-century nave, transept and apse have been preserved. The building thus reflects two distinct periods—the medieval sections and the later reconstruction.

The church is near the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route. Fontaine Saint Eutrope is 100 metres from the village church, in the direction of Route du CEL. Alongside its nature activities, the village’s history reveals another side of Sainte-Eulalie-En-Born: you can shape your stay around an interest in water and landscapes or in the area’s historical heritage.
