A Gothic church, the Marais d'Orx, which lies partly within the municipality, and trails through wetland habitats give Saint-André-De-Seignanx a variety of character. Other local features include the former communal use of the church’s porch beneath the bell tower, the history of the washhouse and Basque pelota. This offers several ways to choose a destination: landscapes, architectural history, outdoor activities, or sport and events.

Landscape and Wetlands

The Marais d'Orx lies partly within the territory of Saint-André-De-Seignanx. It has been a national nature reserve since 1995 and is designated as a Natura 2000 site. The Moussehouns Canal forms the western boundary of the municipality and is connected to the coastal river Boudigau. These two features are distinct: the Marais is notable for its protected status and wetland landscape, while the canal is defined by its location along the western edge and its connection to the Boudigau.

The Circuit de Moussehouns passes through wetland habitats and their characteristic flora and fauna. The route is suitable for walking year-round, as well as for VTT-VTC rides; local conditions may vary and should be checked before setting out. Visitors looking to combine nature and activity during their stay will find a direct connection to the wetlands here. The trail can be considered on its own terms, without conflating it with the town’s other trails.

Church and Local History

The church of Saint-André-De-Seignanx is a Gothic building. Some remains may belong to an earlier apse, although their attribution is uncertain. Another historical aspect is the porch beneath the bell tower: it formerly served as a meeting place where residents dealt with local community matters. The church can therefore be understood not only through its architecture, but also through its former role in community life.

The washhouse is also part of local history. In 2023, it was supplied with water again and its roof was restored. These works provide a specific point of reference in time, while the site’s presentation may continue to evolve in the future. Together with the church, the washhouse offers a different focus from the landscape trails: the emphasis is on built heritage and the history of places used communally.

Trails and Getting Around

The Cassou Hourn Forest has a walking trail that is one of the nine discovery trails of Seignanx. The trails in Cassou Hourn are subject to clear rules: they are reserved exclusively for pedestrians and mountain bikers; motor vehicles and horses are prohibited. This restriction is important when choosing how to get around. The Camiade Arboretum is another point of reference, with walking trails and a signposted map of its circular routes.

For the Circuit de Moussehouns, the car park is opposite the fronton on Route des Cinq Cantons. Check local access information before setting out. The trails mentioned have different features: for the Cassou Hourn Forest, these are the usage rules and the walking trail’s inclusion among the nine Seignanx discovery trails; for the Camiade Arboretum, walking trails and the signposted map of its circular routes are described. The Circuit de Moussehouns also offers wetland habitats and the option of walking or taking VTT-VTC rides.

Pelota and Fêtes

Regular bare-handed Basque pelota matches are held at the covered trinquet in Saint-André-De-Seignanx. Match dates vary. The Fêtes programme includes meals, parade floats, pétanque, running events, walks, Basque strength sports, pelota and fireworks; it may vary from one edition to another. If you would like to plan your stay around the Fêtes, check the dates and programme for the relevant edition.

The town can therefore be assessed according to different interests: wetlands and a designated nature reserve offer a different focus from Gothic architecture and former community functions. Trails, in turn, differ in their usage rules, signage and the activities described.
