Labouheyre lies in the heart of the Landes de Gascogne forest and in the Landes de Gascogne Regional Natural Park, a large protected area. The town offers nature and cultural attractions to suit a range of interests: lakes with walking and leisure activities sit alongside photography, pilgrimage history and digital cultural experiences. Labouheyre has an SNCF train station and direct access to the A63 motorway. When planning your trip, you can consider travelling by train or road and check train connections for your travel dates.

Lakes and forest trails: nature close at hand

Lac de Peyre: walking trail and seasonal swimming

Lac de Peyre is a protected natural area covering 9 hectares. A walking trail runs around the lake, offering a way to spend time by the water. Swimming at the beach is permitted from 1 July to 31 August, between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., under the supervision of trained lifeguards. If you are planning to swim, check that seasonal supervision is in place before your trip. At the same lake, Aqua Warriors offers inflatable games suitable for all ages. Lac de Peyre therefore offers more than just a walking trail: there is also swimming during a limited season and games for different age groups.

Lac du Barit and cycling route

The natural Lac du Barit covers 2 hectares and is close to the town centre. Its designated fishing area is accessible year-round, including to people with reduced mobility. The lakes therefore differ both in size and in the activities described: Lac de Peyre is larger, at 9 hectares, and offers a circular trail, seasonal swimming and games; the 2-hectare Lac du Barit is known for its fishing area. The “De Luë à Labouheyre” cycling route follows a forest cycle path to the entrance to Labouheyre. It complements the information about the train station and the A63 with a cycling route that has a named destination point in town.

Cultural sites with a history of their own

The Maison de la Photographie des Landes bears the “Maison des Illustres” label and hosts exhibitions open to everyone. It is housed in a building typical of the Landes, once the residence of Félix Arnaudin. Photography and the history of the former residence come together here. The Platanes-Tonnelle on Place de la Mairie is another special cultural landmark: it is recognised as part of the “Arbres remarquables de France” distinction.

Labouheyre lies on the Via Turonensis, the route from Tours to Santiago de Compostela. In the Middle Ages, the Fontaine Saint-Jacques served as a stopping place for pilgrims travelling along this route. Today, it has been developed as a place for walks. Its former role as a pilgrimage site and its current use as a walking spot offer two distinct perspectives on the same place.

The Médiathèque Jean-Louis Villenave includes the Micro-Folie de Labouheyre, with a digital museum and a virtual reality area where cultural content is freely accessible. Cinéma Le Félix is classified as “Art et Essai” and bears the “Jeune public” label. Digital culture and cinema thus complement photography and pilgrimage history as additional, clearly distinct offerings.
