Labenne brings together a beach, dune trails, links to nature and cultural history. At Labenne Beach, the lifeguard station carries the “Qualité Tourisme” label. The trails also offer different experiences: a route for several modes of transport, a hike across the dunes and an easy circular walk with information panels.

Beach and trails with different highlights

The Voie Verte connects southern Gironde to Labenne via Capbreton and is open to cyclists, pedestrians and roller skaters. This gives visitors an alternative to the walking trails: the emphasis here is on a route for different modes of transport.

The “Balade sur la dune depuis la plage centrale” hike starts at the Esplanade de la Plage Centrale and follows wooden boardwalks across the dune ridge, offering views over the ocean. The route is therefore defined by dunes and coastal views. The easy “Un chemin, Une école” circular walk covers 6.2 kilometres through Labenne. Information panels offer insights into the town’s history and the protection of its fauna and flora, from the dunes to the forest. There are two distinct options to choose from: a dune ridge and ocean views on the one hand, or an easy circular walk featuring history and nature on the other.

Different features can help you choose a route: the Voie Verte is open to several modes of transport, the circular walk is rated easy and has a stated distance, and the dune hike highlights its wooden boardwalks and ocean views.

Nature and wildlife

The municipality of Labenne owns a large part of the Domaine d’Orx and its nature reserve. The Zoo de Labenne offers a different way to discover animals and species: in a protected five-hectare setting, it features more than 75 species and over 350 animals. The nature-related experiences are quite distinct: one concerns the municipality’s share of a nature reserve, while the other focuses on the variety of species and animals on display at the zoo.

Church and chapel: different historical connections

Saint-Nicolas Church in Labenne was built in the second half of the 19th century and houses a polychrome wooden Madonna dating from the 15th century. The artwork is therefore several centuries older than the church building.

Sainte-Thérèse Chapel opened on 1 December 1932 among the dunes of Labenne Océan. It is just a few steps from the Centre Hélio Marin and the beach, but is closed for religious services and to the public. Its opening, location and visitor restrictions clearly distinguish it from the history of Saint-Nicolas Church.
