Loubès-Bernac combines a landscape shaped by wine and plums with hiking trails, historic buildings and local produce. When choosing where to stay, you can focus on different aspects: a route by distance and elevation gain, church and castle architecture, or wine and crafts.

Landscape and hiking trails

Vineyards and plum orchards cover almost 300 hectares in Loubès-Bernac. Wooded areas, forests and heathland make up the rest of the landscape. This setting provides the backdrop for several different types of outings: the commune has six hiking trails.

One specific option is the “Bernac, randonnée autour du château de Théobon” route. It is 13.1 kilometres long, has an elevation gain of 225 metres and passes through the Côtes de Duras vineyards around Château de Théobon. Distance and elevation gain are different points of reference for planning your own outing, and you can weigh them according to your preferences.

The “Loubès-Bernac, la balade des quatre moulins” route passes four mills, three of which are inhabited. Viewpoints offer vistas of hills shaped by winegrowing and cereal cultivation. The two routes offer different highlights: the Bernac route gives its distance and elevation gain, while the Four Mills route focuses on mills and viewpoints.

A GPS treasure hunt

Tèrra Aventura is a free GPS treasure hunt: along the way, you solve puzzles to find collectible Poï’z characters. The route is a few kilometres long and is described as an activity for people aged 7 to 77. As recommended for this activity, check the app before setting out.

Church and castle history

The church of Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption in Bernac has Romanesque origins and was remodelled in the 15th century with elements of Flamboyant Gothic style. These include an ornate portal. The broad nave is covered by a semicircular barrel vault; the church also has an apse and a choir with a triple arcade. This building brings together different periods and architectural forms.

The history of Château de Théobon dates back to the late 16th century. Recorded features of the historic estate include a stone bridge over the former moats, entrance openings with double posts, and a chapel. There is also a 17th-century wrought-iron staircase and restored painted ceilings. The château is privately owned and can be visited in summer; check the current visiting arrangements when planning your trip.

Wine and crafts

Domaine La Tuilerie Labreille manages a 38-hectare family vineyard and traditionally produces Côtes de Duras AOP wines. Domaine du Petit Loubès produces a range of AOP wines, from red and rosé to dry and sweet white wines. These details offer two specific perspectives on local winegrowing: the size of the vineyard and traditional winemaking at one estate, and the range of wine styles at the other.

At both Domaine du Petit Loubès and Domaine La Tuilerie Labreille, self-guided and guided visits are available by prior arrangement only. Confirm current visiting arrangements in advance.

Local crafts also showcase a range of materials and techniques. La dame o fleurs makes jewellery from local flowers, which are dried and pressed under magnifying glass. La dame o fleurs also handcrafts bags, small bags, purses and fashion accessories from genuine French leather.
