Riverbanks in the town center, a historic château and rides on a disused railway line give Corgnac-sur-l'Isle a range of reasons to stay. There is also an officially approved hiking route and trails through the Périgord Vert countryside. When planning, you can first decide whether to focus on the river, cultural history or an active ride.

Riverbanks and nature watching

At Les bords de l'Isle, the Isle runs through the village. There are places to sit along the banks at various spots in the town center, in the shade of alder and other deciduous trees. Visitors can watch dragonflies and damselflies there. If you’re looking for a break that combines sitting by the water with nature watching, you can plan a visit to this area as a separate activity. The ZNIEFF “Vallée de l'Isle en amont de Périgueux, gorges de l'Isle et de ses affluents, landes du Jumilhacois” is also associated with Corgnac-sur-l'Isle.

Château and local history

The Château de Laxion was listed as a historic monument in its entirety by an order dated October 9, 2009. Four wings are connected by four towers around an inner courtyard. The château’s protected status and architectural form offer two specific cultural points of interest: its designation and the layout of the complex. Another story is told by paper production at a mill in Corgnac-sur-l'Isle: from 1910 to 1963, paper for Grimaud playing cards was produced there. The building’s history and its former production are therefore distinct ways to explore the town’s culture.

Rides and routes

The Vélorail du Périgord Vert offers two 14-kilometer round trips with electric assistance. The ride follows a disused railway line with bridges, viaducts, a tunnel and former railway stations. The site is in Borra, in Corgnac-sur-l'Isle. Les trottinettes du Périgord Vert offers rides on all-terrain electric scooters along trails through the Périgord Vert countryside. A route of around 22 kilometers takes approximately two hours and starts at Corgnac-sur-l'Isle railway station.

The two activities differ in how you travel and the route format: with the Vélorail, you can choose between two round trips of equal length, while the scooter option has a single route with an approximate duration and starting point. This lets you plan for the roughly two-hour ride as well as the length of the Vélorail routes. Check the arrangements before your trip, as activity formats may change.

Hiking and further discoveries

The Boucle de Fontarnaud starts in Corgnac-sur-l'Isle and is approved by the Fédération Française de Randonnée. It offers a different focus from the rides: if you’d rather explore on foot than on wheels, you can consider this named hiking route. Its starting point in the town is a practical planning detail; no route length or walking time is included here. Together with the riverside spots and cultural attractions, it gives you a choice between spending time by the water, hiking and riding through the countryside.
