In Lièpvre, the valley widens towards the Alsatian Plain, forming the link between the side valley of Rombach-le-Franc and the upper valley. Nature, architecture and paths offer different focuses for a stay—from a walk exploring local history to longer tours through the valley.

Valley Nature and Heritage

Along the Lièpvrette, the ZNIEFF area “Cours, boisements et prairies humides de la Lièpvrette et du Giessen de Lièpvre à Châtenois” extends as far as Lièpvre. It includes the associated forests and wet meadows. Nature is therefore part of the village’s character, alongside the history of its religious buildings.

The ossuary, later a cemetery chapel, is located on Rue de l’Église and serves as a cemetery chapel. It contains twin windows and a keel-arched doorway from the former priory. These two architectural features provide a tangible link to the former monastic complex. The Priory of Lièpvre, also known as Leberau, was founded around 750 under the influence of the Alsatian abbot Fulrad. The mining history of the Val de Lièpvre is also part of the historical context: the monks of Lièpvre Abbey are considered to have initiated the discovery of mineral deposits in the Val de Lièpvre.

Routes for Different Time Budgets

The medieval Chemin de Charlemagne leads towards Schaentzel and is marked by the Club Vosgien Lièpvre/Rombach-le-Franc with a red-white-red rectangle. As trail markings may change, check them on site. The “Itinéraire vers le Schaentzel” is listed as taking approximately 3.5 hours, covering 12 kilometres there and back, with an elevation gain of 351 metres. The circular route starts at the car park of Lièpvre’s salle polyvalente.

At around 1.5 hours and 2.5 kilometres, the “Balade ludique à Lièpvre” is a shorter option. The walk starts at the town hall and introduces families to the origins of the village, its wine-growing activities and its industrial development through notable buildings and monuments. Before planning, check whether the tour is currently available. The “Véloroute du Val d’Argent” is another way to explore Lièpvre by bike: this cycling and mountain-biking route runs from Sainte-Croix-aux-Mines to Lièpvre along the Lièpvrette Valley. Trail conditions and access may change; check local conditions before setting out.

Ferme d’Argentin and Getting There

La Ferme d’Argentin is a 10-hectare visitor site featuring an animal and plant park with domestic animals and plants, gardens, crops, orchards, hedgerows and a historical trail. The 2-kilometre outdoor trail passes through animal enclosures, gardens, crops and orchards. Along the way, interactive activities take visitors through historical periods—from the prehistoric hunter-gatherers to the present day. Seasonal activities may vary.

La Ferme d’Argentin can be reached on the Sélestat–Saint-Dié-des-Vosges TER line. Get off at the Robert Guth stop in Lièpvre; the final kilometre is on foot. Check that the line is currently operating before travelling. This makes it possible to plan the journey as part of your day without treating the tour or site details as a fixed train connection.

Market and Farm Produce

The “Marché local de Lièpvre” takes place every Monday morning from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Place de la Mairie, from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2027. Regional specialities, handicrafts and products from the Val d’Argent are on offer. If you are travelling after the period stated, check the dates in advance.

GAEC Ménétré offers farm tours for individuals and groups by appointment. Visits to the cheese dairy are possible in the afternoon between 2 and 4:30 p.m.; arrange your visit directly with the farm. The farm produces and sells aged cheese, butter, fromage blanc and tomme made from the milk of Holstein and Vosges cows. As product availability may change, it is also advisable to enquire directly.
