Kiffis lies at an altitude of 575 metres on the southern slope of the Blochmont. The village combines a parish church described in specific detail and a significant historical turning point with karst formations, hiking trails and horse-related activities. This mix can help you decide what to focus on before booking a holiday rental: local history, landscape or outdoor activities. There are also specific timings and contact requirements for travel and certain visits, which should be factored into your plans.

Church and local history

The parish church of Saint-Pierre, Saint-Paul was built between 1817 and 1820. If you are interested in its construction, its features can be clearly described: a projecting bell tower, a single-nave church with two bays and a rounded chancel. A single-nave church has one nave; the two bays describe how it is divided into sections. 2 May 1449 marks a specific turning point in local history: the Château du Blochmont was plundered, set on fire and razed to the ground on that day. Les Forges is a district of Kiffis associated with its industrial history.

Karst formations and landscape

The Grotte du Saalhof lies 200 metres south of the farmsteads of the same name and is 32 metres long. The dolines of Fluhberg are between 2 and 30 metres deep. These offer two different measures to consider when planning your visit to the landscape: the length of a cave and the range of depths of the dolines. South of Kiffis, the Lucelle runs along the bottom of a syncline.

Horse riding and visits to farms

Ferme équestre Zum Blaue offers rides, one- and multi-day trail rides, courses and training sessions. The facilities include a riding arena, an indoor riding hall and a PTV course; around twenty horses are suitable for both classical riding and trail rides. At Ferme du Hornihof, the La Montagne Bleue breeding farm offers free guided tours of its llama and Central Asian Shepherd dog breeding operation on Sundays and public holidays from 3 to 5 pm. You must contact the farm in advance to confirm its availability. Paid visits for groups can be arranged by appointment, as can llama walks. The offerings are therefore quite different: Zum Blaue focuses on riding, with rides, courses and trail rides; La Montagne Bleue adds breeding tours and llama walks.

Plan your routes and journey

Ferme du Hornihof can be reached from the Col du Blochmont via a forest path marked with a red cross. The Kiffis–Hornihof hike follows red-cross markings from the Col du Blochmont before descending towards Kiffis. The Petit Tour du Jura Alsacien gravel route follows a white road along the Swiss border and the Lucelle to Kiffis.

Bus route 831 connects Kiffis with Ferrette and Mulhouse. The full journey time for the route is 1 hour and 40 minutes; this is not the stated travel time for an individual section. Check the current operating days and times before travelling. If you are looking for a holiday rental for a stay in Kiffis, consider your interests when choosing. If you plan to take a guided tour or use the bus route, check your travel dates against the visiting hours or the current timetable.
