At Lamminjärvi, you’ll find a public sandy beach, a walking path about 1 km long and winter activities. Jalasjärvi also has cultural attractions, winter sports around Kiuaskallio and places to visit nearby. When planning your trip, you can weigh up options for history, activities by the water and outdoor exercise.
Church and Museum
Jalasjärven kirkko was built in 1800. Its altarpiece, dating from 1906, is by Aleksandra Frosterus-Såltin and depicts the Transfiguration of Christ. The construction date and the painting mark different periods: the church dates from the early 19th century, while the altarpiece dates from the beginning of the 20th century.
Jalasjärven museo comprises more than 30 buildings. Examples of rural village architecture include a farmhouse, a croft settlement, a cottage for farm workers, a smoke sauna, granaries and a barber shop. The collection comprises almost 30,000 objects. One of the granaries also houses a school museum and a church museum. Those interested in everyday history will find not only the buildings here, but also an extensive collection and two museums with their own themes.
At Lamminjärvi: Water and Winter Activities
Lamminjärvi is right in the centre of Jalasjärvi. The lake has a public sandy beach, and a walking path about 1 km long runs around it. If you’d like to combine time by the water with a walk, you can include both in your plans. In winter, Lamminjärvi offers opportunities for cross-country skiing, sauna bathing and ice swimming. Jalasjärven Lamminjärvi’s ice sauna is open from October to April. Before visiting, check whether it is operating during the season in question.
You can also go paddling on Lamminjärvi. During opening hours, two canoes can be rented at the traffic park; each can accommodate three people. As rentals are limited to opening hours and arrangements may change, check in advance whether canoe hire is available for your planned dates. This will make it easier to combine a canoe trip with your time at the lake.
Winter Sports and Indoor Swimming Pool
Kiuaskallio is a family-friendly ski centre in Kurikka, near the church village of Jalasjärvi. Facilities include a ski slope and a fast toboggan run. The area also has cross-country ski trails of varying lengths and plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities. These options differ from the winter activities available right at Lamminjärvi: Kiuaskallio has a ski slope, toboggan run and trails, while the lake offers, among other things, cross-country skiing, a sauna and ice swimming.
For the 2025–2026 season, a 6.5 km illuminated trail in Kiuaskallio was among the maintained trails in the Jalasjärvi area. It was intended for both classic and freestyle skiing. This information applies to that season; check the current trail maintenance before a winter trip in a later season.
Another option in the centre is Jalasjärven swimming pool. The small indoor pool was built in the 1970s and renovated later. It has a children’s pool and a large pool. This means that in Jalasjärvi, you can choose from indoor pools as well as the lake and seasonal winter activities.
