Vomo combines a short, steep summit trail with a longer coastal loop and a variety of reef experiences. The different walking times make it easier to fit island activities into your stay.

Trails between the summit and the coast

The trail to the summit of Mt Vomo is a short, steep walk of about 15 minutes. Guests are encouraged to complete it on foot or at a run. Allow about 1 to 1.5 hours to circle the entire island. The route passes deserted beaches, rocky outcrops and beautiful swimming spots; the beaches around Vomo stretch for about five kilometres. Check local tide and safety information before setting out on the coastal loop.

Almost two-thirds of Vomo consists of mountainous terrain, and several trails lead to the peaks of Mount Vomo. Trails at the foot of Mt Vomo reach an eastern hill at the far end of the island in about 30 minutes. There is a yoga platform there. The summit walk, the trail to this hill and the island loop therefore differ both in duration and destination.

Beaches, snorkelling and diving

An outer reef protects the beaches associated with Vomo, which are considered suitable for swimming and snorkelling during the day. Sea conditions can vary. Snorkelling is possible directly from all beaches. Complimentary water sports include stand-up paddleboards, single and double kayaks, Hobie Cat sailing, windsurfing, snorkelling equipment and snorkelling safaris. Ocean Play provides adults and children with masks, snorkels and fins free of charge; equipment arrangements may change.

Guided snorkelling safaris depart daily at 11 am. An Ocean Play guide takes up to 12 guests to one of five nearby sites. Departure times and group capacity may change; check these details before making plans. Another complimentary guided snorkelling tour goes to the Coral Gene Bank. Expert guides explain the importance of coral conservation and life on the reef. Tour times may also change.

Coral conservation and dives

The Coral Gene Bank is a stainless-steel installation located 18 feet underwater and extending for 60 feet. In February 2025, it housed more than 500 corals. During a hands-on Reef Restoration Dive, participants clean the stainless-steel art sculpture while the team cares for the corals. Participation depends on conditions and availability.

There are five dive sites around Vomo, located 5 to 10 minutes by boat from the Activities Centre. Their average depths range from 12 to 20 metres; they are considered shallow dives. Dive-site logistics depend on conditions. VOMO also offers English-language PADI courses. The Open Water certification course includes four days of theory and practical training. Course schedules and fees may change; check the details in advance.

Island culture and activities

VOMO hosts an authentic Meke and Lovo evening every week for all guests, usually on Wednesday evenings. The programme may change. After the Meke, chefs serve a Fijian-inspired buffet featuring local ingredients and authentic island dishes. Club V offers Fijian cooking classes and weaving demonstrations for young people aged ten and over; these programme details may also change.

Handline fishing around Vomo is considered a family experience and a way to introduce children to the joys of fishing. This is different from fishing trips departing from Vomo, which are operated by a third party and may target large pelagic fish year-round. Vomo has a strict catch-and-release rule for all non-pelagic species. Charter operations and fishing regulations may change; check the terms before booking.

The complimentary pitch-and-putt golf course has nine holes. Golf clubs for adults and children are also available to borrow free of charge; equipment availability may change. The air-conditioned gym is in the centre of the island, next to the golf course and spa. It is open 24 hours a day and free for all guests to use. Facilities and opening hours may change.

The Kids’ Village is accessed via a suspension bridge. It includes a playroom, a kitchen and a media room, as well as a playhouse, covered play areas and climbing frames. There is also a BBQ and dining area, a dress-up wardrobe and craft tables.

Accommodation and getting there

Vomo Island covers 255 acres, can be explored by guests and is home to just one resort. Vomo can be reached by a 15-minute helicopter flight or a 40-minute speedboat ride. Transfer times depend on operating conditions; check them when planning your trip.

For a break, gourmet island picnics with chilled drinks can be prepared and delivered anywhere on Vomo. Booking arrangements may change. Together with the trails, beach offerings and reef activities, this makes it possible to plan an island stay that balances walking time, time on the water and quieter breaks.
