Võhma city combines a distinctive railway history with cultural, craft and leisure offerings. Võhma Days, the artists’ studio at Võhma Valgusevabrik, Võhma Playland and the Võhma Museum Room each offer something different. When planning your trip, consider whether an event should shape your stay or whether individual themes such as local history, candle art and physical activity are more important. This lets you choose a focus based on your interests, rather than treating all the places as similar attractions.

Between railway and settlement history

The north–south Tallinn–Lelle–Viljandi railway line and the Tallinn–Viljandi road run through Võhma. The town’s railway history dates back to the settlement’s origins. After the Mõisaküla–Viljandi–Tallinn railway line was completed in 1900, a settlement grew up around a station on the territory of Võhma village. It soon developed into an important railway junction and a workers’ settlement in northern Viljandimaa. The settlement’s origins and its later role as a junction provide a thread to follow if you want to understand the town’s history.

Cultural centre, museum and event

The renovated Võhma Cultural Centre opened at Christmas 1998. The building had a hall with 343 seats. The Võhma Museum Room is located at Tallinna 15 in Võhma. The opening of the cultural centre and the museum room’s address mark two distinct cultural-history points of reference in Võhma.

Võhma Days have been held since 1997. The 29th edition, held in 2026, was a three-day event featuring culture, sport, a market, music and activities for the whole family. The programme also included the traditional folk strength competition, “Võhma Vägilane”. If you are planning your trip around the event, check the dates for the specific edition.

Candle art, animals and play activities

A visit to the artists’ studio is part of a guided tour at Võhma Valgusevabrik. Wedding candles are carefully decorated there. If you are interested in crafts, this part of the tour offers a specific focus. The courtyard of Võhma Valgusevabrik also has a children’s playground; the animal park is home to rabbits, ducks and guinea pigs. The “Võhma” café is right next to the mini train ride.

At Võhma Playland, activities include roller skating, a two-storey indoor climbing area with slides and a ball pit, and a large trampoline with an obstacle course. The focus here is on movement and play, while a tour of Valgusevabrik also offers a craft-focused experience. This distinction can help you weigh up the options for your stay based on the interests of your travel group.

Plan your stay around your interests

When planning, you can start by deciding on the occasion: Võhma Days is a scheduled event programme, while the railway history, cultural centre and Museum Room offer other cultural-history points of interest. The studio, animal park and Playland, in turn, focus on crafts, animals and physical activity. You can therefore first decide whether the event programme is the deciding factor or whether you would like to focus on individual themes. This priority also makes searching for a holiday apartment in Võhma city more specific, without requiring you to plan a fixed itinerary for your stay.
