The Emakeeleausammas stands beside Kadrina School and is one of the municipality’s major sights. The church and railway station shape Kadrina’s local history through their different construction periods and distinctive architectural details. Kadrina also offers cultural activities and routes for exercise, so there is plenty to discover, from church art and railway station architecture to outdoor activities.

The Church and Railway Station as Historical Landmarks

Kadrina alevik developed at the end of the 19th century between Kadrina railway station and Kadrina Church. According to local accounts, the settlement grew especially after the railway was built. The first station building was constructed in 1870; the later one followed in 1898. The two buildings were constructed 28 years apart. The later building featured elaborate wooden carvings and decorative details.

Church Art and Cultural Life

Today’s stone Kadrina Church was built on the same site in the 15th century. Above the triumphal arch is an almost life-size wooden crucifix with a figure of Christ, brought from Germany in the 1490s. The congregation traditionally gives 1231 as its year of foundation; this recorded date is far earlier than the construction of today’s stone church. The congregation’s history also includes the purchase of a new 18-stop organ from the Church of Jesus in St. Petersburg. The church offers a glimpse into both its architectural history and its individual works of art and furnishings.

The Kahevahel senior mixed folk dance group is currently active at Kadrina Rahvamaja. The building was completed in 1930 in just five months, using donated funds. Kadrina Kultuurikoda organizes events, presents professional culture, and provides cultural and leisure activities. Church services are held at the church at 11 a.m. on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. If you plan to attend a service, check the specific date before setting out.

Routes and Exercise

Kadrina terviserada has artificially snow-covered routes of 2.4 km, 1.7 km, and 1 km. They are used for exercise year-round and for skiing in winter. The lengths distinguish the three routes: the longest is more than twice as long as the shortest, while the 1.7 km route lies between them. Route length and season therefore offer distinct points of reference. The grounds also have a low ropes course and a bike park with jumps and a pump track.

A route for pedestrians and cyclists runs around Kadrina Paisjärv. Its defining feature is its path around the lake; you can explore it on foot or by bicycle.
