Toila Parish offers a variety of reasons to stay: coastal scenery, hiking trails, a park and cultural attractions. If you are looking for hotels in Toila Parish, you can first consider whether beaches and the sea, walks, or historical and industrial themes should shape your travel plans.

Coast between beach and cliffs

Toila Beach lies at the mouth of the Pühajõgi River on the Gulf of Finland. Shallow banks of beach stones sit alongside a narrow strip of sand. The Ontika Cliffs rise up to 55 m above sea level, adding a different feature to the coastal landscape. Beach and cliffs can thus be seen as distinct landscape features: stones and sand on one hand, and the height of the rock faces on the other.

There are two beach volleyball courts at the beach. If you plan to use the courts during your visit, check their current availability in advance.

Hiking trails: compare length and route

The Saka Klindimõisa hiking trail is 2 km long and runs along the edge of the cliffs and by the seashore. The 1.3 km trail from Valaste Waterfall offers a different route: it passes through the cliff forest to the sea. The Valaste route is shorter; the trails also differ in their described landscapes and routes. The Metsa hiking route reaches Estonia’s northern coast at Toila. This trail therefore focuses on a coastal destination, while the lengths and routes are specified for the other two trails.

Oru Park in the Pühajõgi Valley

Oru Park lies in the valley of the Pühajõgi River. You can stroll along its well-marked, well-maintained paths. The park is also home to Hõbeallika Cave, also called Silver Spring, which visitors can explore. The paths and the cave offer two different reasons to spend time in the park: a walk through the valley and a visit to the named natural feature.

Experience cultural history and industry

The “VR Toila 1938” VR experience lets you see Oru Manor brought back to life. It tells the story of the manor’s creation and renovation and offers a glimpse into the life of Estonian President Konstantin Päts at Oru. Choosing this experience therefore connects the history of the manor with a look at the life of a specific historical figure. Visitors can rent a VR headset. If you plan to include the VR experience in your itinerary, check the booking conditions before your visit.

The Estonian Mining Museum offers a different way to explore the region’s history. Its underground museum provides a hands-on impression of everyday work underground. The enrichment plant, by contrast, illustrates the journey of oil shale and how energy is produced. Together, the two attractions cover different aspects of mining: experiencing underground work and processing the raw material to produce energy.

Saunas and Estonian coastal cuisine

Toila Baths offers steam, infrared, aroma, wood-fired and salt saunas. Facilities also include heated loungers and hot tubs. If a particular type of sauna is important to your plans, check before your visit whether it is currently available.

Toila Mereresto serves fresh dishes made with local ingredients, rooted in Estonian coastal cuisine and shaped by modern influences. This specific culinary focus adds another option to the choice of coast, walking trails and culture. If you are planning to visit for a particular dish, it is worth checking the current menu.
