The Vía Aventura is 14.6 kilometers long. Santo Domingo De Los Tsáchilas brings together a range of things to explore: river activities, forest areas, Tsáchila culture and regional cuisine. Alongside a specifically stated route length, there are natural areas, cultural sites and dishes with their own regional connections.
Rivers, Water and Routes
A separate lane for pedestrians and cyclists was planned for the Vía Aventura. The Circuito de Cascadas del Diablo is a tourist destination in the parish of Alluriquín in the canton of Santo Domingo. Visitors can enjoy water sports such as jumping activities and rafting on the Río Blanco. Rafting on the river is a tourist destination in the parish of Valle Hermoso in the canton of Santo Domingo.
The water-related sites differ in nature: Cascadas El Cristal is designated as a provincial water reserve, the Circuito de Cascadas del Diablo as a tourist destination, and the Río Blanco as a place for water sports. This allows you to distinguish between a stated route length, a designated water reserve and specific activities named at the river.
Forest Areas and Nature Sites
ACUS Nepi Sonba covers 6.22 hectares and is located in the Tsáchila community of El Poste. Of this, 3.80 hectares are forest, or 61.09 percent of the total area. ACUS Leodeth is slightly larger, at 6.69 hectares. It is located in the parish of Valle Hermoso, in the El Sábalo settlement, in the Los Girasoles sector, and consists of a continuous stand of native forest. The two descriptions emphasize different aspects: Nepi Sonba’s forest share is quantified, while Leodeth’s continuous stand of native forest is highlighted.
In Monterrey, Parque de los Monos is a wooded remnant area. Its preservation is important because of the mammals, birds, fish and plants found there. Santuario de Vida Silvestre La Ruta del Jaguar is located in Placer del Toachi. Environmental education is also among the nature-related topics: 1,340 visitors passed through ACUS Parque Kasama to learn about the province’s biological diversity through environmental education activities.
Tsáchila Culture and Other Discoveries
Monumento Indígena Tsáchila con Marimba represents Tsáchila culture and its traditional musical instrument. In the San Pedro settlement, visitors can learn about the history and customs of the Tsáchila community. Thus, alongside a cultural monument, history and community traditions are also distinct topics to explore.
Plantaciones y Artesanías de Abacá are located in the parishes of Plan Piloto and Monterrey in the canton of La Concordia. Zoológico La Isla del Tapir is also located in the parish of Plan Piloto. Together with the nature and cultural sites, these names point to other areas of interest, without implying that they form a single excursion or a fixed itinerary.
Regional Cuisine
Alluriquín is known for sugarcane liquor, melcochas and alfeñiques. Ayampaco is a traditional dish of the Tsáchila communities: river fish is wrapped in bijao leaves, and the dish is offered to tourists especially during the Kasama festival. Parrillada is among the most commonly eaten foods in Santo Domingo; the area is strongly shaped by cattle raising.
The culinary references operate on different levels: from products associated with Alluriquín, to a traditional dish of the Tsáchila communities, to a food whose popularity is linked to cattle raising in Santo Domingo. This makes cuisine another way to explore the province, alongside its landscapes, water activities and culture.
