Beach and public access points
Playa Juan Dolio shapes your stay with a long, bright stretch of coastline: the sandy beach is about 10 kilometers long and white. Walking from one end to the other takes more than an hour. If you plan to cover this distance on foot, set aside a separate block of time in your day. When planning your time, it is therefore important to decide whether you want to walk the entire length of the beach or plan a shorter beach visit. Two public access points offer helpful landmarks: one is at the entrance to town, the other on the boulevard next to Club Hemingway. Check local conditions before your trip, as access rules may change.
At sunset, visitors can stroll along the coastline and the beach restaurants. This evening walk has a different focus from the long walk from one end of the beach to the other: the latter highlights the scale of Playa Juan Dolio, while the former takes in the coastline and restaurants on the beach.
Walks and water activities
Paddleboarding and kayaking are offered in areas with gentle waves in Juan Dolio. These provide two options for water activities alongside walks. If you are weighing up exercise on land and on the water, the options have clearly different focuses: a walk along the coastline or paddleboarding or kayaking. Water activities thus add a different focus to your beach plans.
Golf as another highlight
Golf complements the coastal activities with two distinct course profiles. Guavaberry Golf and Country Club offers a technically challenging golf course with wide fairways. Los Marlins Golf Course is a classic 18-hole golf course in Juan Dolio. The combination of technical challenge and wide fairways sets Guavaberry apart, while Los Marlins is characterized by its classic style and 18 holes. Check whether the courses are currently operating before your visit.
Beach restaurants and cuisine
There are restaurants serving local and international cuisine on the beach in Juan Dolio. They include El Sueño, El Mesón Español, Bistro Marianna, Sal Marina, El Lobo y la Sal, El Concón, Café del Sol, Paladar and La Brissa. The two types of cuisine offer different options for a meal at the beach, while the names provide specific choices for your restaurant selection. As restaurant names may change, check the current selection before planning a visit.
Comparing nearby destinations
Guayacanes is considered a nearby beach town with a more distinctly local atmosphere. This offers an additional point of comparison with Playa Juan Dolio: the long white sandy beach and water sports define the latter, while Guayacanes is characterized by its more local feel. When choosing your destination, you can therefore consider the character of each place alongside your interests in beaches and activities.
