Følle is a winding street village whose settlement pattern along Bygaden is still clearly visible today. Most of Følle is designated as an area of valuable cultural heritage. Hannesminde adds the concrete architecture of a former manor farm to this perspective; Følle Beach and birdwatching at Følle Bund add other interests to your travel itinerary.
Village setting and farm architecture
The shape of the street village can be seen along Bygaden on the scale of the village. Følle also offers a specific example of architectural history: Hannesminde is located at Bygaden 23 and is a well-preserved former manor farm. Its residence, barns and stables, carriage shed and servants’ quarters are arranged around a large courtyard.
The building is protected; a preservation declaration is also registered in the land registry. This makes it possible to distinguish between two different scales: the winding settlement pattern along Bygaden and the arrangement of different building types around the courtyard. For your trip planning, this offers a cultural focus that is not limited to a single building.
Landscape and beach
Følle lies on south-facing slopes that descend towards Kalø Vig. Følle Beach also faces south. The beach is child-friendly and has calm water. The landscape features therefore describe different things: the slopes indicate Følle’s location, while the beach features specify its orientation and the character of its water.
If you plan your trip around your interests, local and architectural history can be combined with a distinct beach experience. At Følle Beach, the child-friendly setting and calm water are the specific points of reference; the beach and slopes share a southerly aspect, but this does not make them the same experience.
Birdwatching at Følle Bund
In the area around Følle, the restored Følle Bund area is home to many species of waterbirds and waders. The bird tower at Følle Bund is located at the edge of the forest in the northernmost part of Hestehave Skov. A yellow-marked route leads to an observation tower, where meadow birds and waders at Følle Bund can be observed.
The bird tower is accessible via the Molsrutestien and a connecting path. From car parks north or west of Hestehave Skov, an approximately 1 km walk through the forest leads to the tower. Information about the site and access may change; check local conditions before visiting.
Beach or birdwatching?
The type of outing is a helpful way to compare the two nature experiences: Følle Beach offers calm water and a child-friendly setting, while the bird tower is about birdwatching and a walk through the forest. You can therefore choose what to focus on based on your interest in the beach or nature observation, without treating the two as the same kind of outing.
