Bryrup combines swimming at Bryrup Søbad with lakes, a historic railway and trails for a range of activities. The landscape also features wooded hills and open areas. This offers different ways to plan your trip: time by the water, a ride on the Veteranbanen, or exploring the landscape and local history.

Lakes, Beach and Landscape

Bryrup Søbad has a bathing jetty and a sandy beach; toilets and changing facilities round out the visitor amenities. Bryrup Langsø stretches through a valley shaped by the Ice Age, surrounded by wooded hills and open areas. The 91-metre-high, heather-covered Grenen offers views of Bryrup Langsø and nearby lakes.

Near Bryrup is the protected area of Bryrup Langsø og Karlsø. It covers 124 hectares and is open to the public. Karlsø is also nearby, with a 150-metre-long sandy beach. Grenen is a public recreational area. Its open landscape, partly covered in heather, is intended to be preserved through grazing. Alongside the shorelines, the characteristic landscape and its preservation are therefore also local points of interest.

Veteran Railway and Trails

The Veteranbanen Bryrup–Vrads offers a five-kilometre ride from Bryrup to Vrads. Along the way, the railway passes Kvindsø, Kulsø and Snabe Igelsø. It is operated by a group of railway enthusiasts who work to preserve old railway rolling stock, buildings and facilities. The ride therefore combines a clearly defined route with an insight into railway tradition.

The Silkeborg–Horsens nature trail also runs through Bryrup. The Bryrupbanestien follows a disused railway line and is designed for cyclists and hikers. The options differ: the five-kilometre railway ride is the main attraction on the Veteranbanen, while the nature trail and Bryrupbanestien offer other ways to explore the landscape. Choosing between them lets you focus on the historic railway, nature or outdoor activities.

Church and Local History

Bryrup Church also offers a historical connection: the present church was built in the 12th century. Its chancel and nave date from the Romanesque period. The building’s history and the landscape attractions offer different focal points for planning your trip: here, a building from a specific period; there, lakes, a valley and hills shape the surrounding scenery.

Getting There and Finding Accommodation

Bus route 215 connects Bryrup with Silkeborg, Horsens and Vejle. Route 913x connects Bryrup with Billund Airport, Nørre Snede, Silkeborg and Aarhus. If you plan to use one of these connections to get there, check the timetable before travelling.

When looking for a hotel in Bryrup, you can first consider which aspects of the town you want to shape your stay: Søbad and the lakes, a ride on the Veteranbanen, the trails or local history. You can include the bus connections mentioned above in your travel plans; check the specific timetables before setting off.
