Brundby can be explored through several themes: the Brundby Post Mill represents a long milling history, a small historic pond offers the chance to observe salamanders, insects, and frogs, and some paths are open to cyclists and horse riders. The Brundby Hotel adds a specific accommodation option: it is known as Denmark’s only RockHotel and hosts intimate concerts. You can decide whether to focus on history, nature, outdoor activities, or music during your stay.

The Brundby Post Mill: Milling History and a View

The Brundby Post Mill ground its first flour at the beginning of the 17th century. It was sold to Samsø in 1683. In 1817, it was moved to its present location on Kolhøj and erected there; it continued grinding grain until 1939. The location on Kolhøj is therefore part of the mill’s later history, not the beginning of its milling operations.

The mill is one of only 16 surviving post mills in Denmark and is considered the oldest, or at least the second-oldest, in the country. From the mill, the view stretches as far as Ballen. This place combines a long historical timeline with a specific view of the landscape.

Visits for guided tours are intended to take place during opening hours. Check the opening hours in advance if you are planning a tour.

Village Ponds and Local History

Brundby has three village ponds. A small historic pond in Brundby has stepping stones that let you walk out without getting your feet wet and observe salamanders, insects, and frogs. The stepping stones make this spot especially interesting if you enjoy getting to know nature through close observation.

Brundby was laid out behind protective hilltops so that it could not be seen from the sea. A well-preserved well stands by the road at Brundby Hovedgade 24. Genforeningsplads in Brundby is also worth a stop. These local details complement the mill’s history with further insights into the village’s layout and local culture.

Marked Routes for Cycling and Horse Riding

Some paths in Brundby are open to cyclists and horse riders; symbols mark these routes. Several colour-coded signs point to local routes. If you are considering cycling or horse riding, the markers provide practical guidance for planning: you can choose an activity first, then look for the corresponding route signs.

RockHotel, Concerts, and Danish Cuisine

The Brundby Hotel is known as Denmark’s only RockHotel and hosts intimate concerts. Its restaurant serves classic Danish cuisine made with island produce and, where possible, organic ingredients. This means music and food are also part of what the area offers, alongside the mill’s history and nature watching.

The combination of hotel, music, and restaurant gives you another point of reference for choosing Brundby based on your travel interests.
