Fine sand, bathing spots at both ends of the beach and an appealing natural landscape give Ajstrup Beach a clear focus: swimming and sunbathing take centre stage here. Parking at the northern and southern ends, along with several toilets, makes it easy to get your bearings. One of the toilets is accessible. For a day at the beach, you can choose the northern or southern section as your arrival point and focus your stay on time by the water.

A day at the beach and bathing spots

Ajstrup Beach is a fine sandy beach where visitors can swim and sunbathe. Parking is available at both ends, in the north and in the south. This lets you choose where to arrive based on the section of beach you want to visit. Several toilets, including an accessible toilet, make it easy to get your bearings at the beach.

At the northern end there is a bathing jetty owned by Aarhus Municipality; in the southern section there is one owned by the landowners' association. A local sports club reported on 24 September 2025 that the jetties are used for swimming year-round, including by winter swimmers. Check locally before visiting to find out whether the jetties are available. There are also freely accessible fire pits at Ajstrup Beach for outings, short stays or overnight stays. Check local guidance before lighting a fire.

Nearby alternatives for swimming and excursions

Nearby Mariendal Beach is also suitable for swimming. National cycle route N5 passes along it. Mariendal therefore combines a visit to the beach with a direct connection to cycling, while Ajstrup itself is known for its sandy beach, parking at both ends and bathing jetties.

In nearby Norsminde, traces of former inhabitants date back to around 6600 BC. Norsminde Harbour and Fjord also offer opportunities for fishing. From there, you can walk towards Ajstrup Beach. The places each have a different focus: Mariendal complements its swimming with the cycle route, while Norsminde offers archaeological history and fishing.

As a note about the wider area, bus 31 runs from the bus station to MoesgĂĄrd Beach. If you plan to use this connection, check the timetable for your travel date.

Stay by the beach

First Camp Ajstrup Beach is located right beside a bathing beach on Jutland's Danish east coast. The indoor pool is also said to be available to non-resident guests; check in advance whether this is currently possible.

This makes Ajstrup Beach a destination for a stay by the water, without conflating the nearby places with the beach itself. Decide whether to focus on the sandy beach and its bathing spots or include nearby Mariendal and Norsminde, each with its own attractions.
