Skodsborg brings together two distinct reasons to visit: the narrow sandy beach in Strandpark and a history as a spa and seaside resort. It also offers places of remembrance, as well as paths through woodland and marshland. When choosing the town for a stay, you can first decide whether the coast, local history or nature experiences should be your main focus.

Strandpark and bathing jetty

Skodsborg Strandpark is a long, narrow park between Strandvejen and the coast, with direct access to the water. Its sandy beach is 300 metres long and 25 metres wide. The park and beach make the coast a clear focus for your trip. The park has a small seating area with benches, a kiosk and public toilets.

A step-free bathing jetty, accessible year-round, complements the beach area. The “excellent” bathing-water classification is based on data from 2022 to 2025; the municipal bathing water profile was revised on 30 April 2026. This classification is therefore tied to its data period and should not be taken as a statement about individual bathing days.

Spa history and places of remembrance

Towards the end of the 19th century, Skodsborg became a spa and seaside resort. Skodsborg Badesanatorium was founded in 1898; by 1925, the sanatorium in Skodsborg was the largest spa resort in the Nordic countries. Jakob Carl Ottosen founded it with his wife, following the American model. These dates provide a timeline for the local spa history without equating its historical standing with present-day operations.

Frederik VII’s Grotto is also a historic landmark: it was built the year after Frederik VII bought Skodsborg Palæ. The king used the grotto for festive occasions; it was protected in 1950. Along Strandvejen stand large, heritage-worthy villas that give the area its distinctive Strandvejen character.

A memorial stone at Skodsborg Strandvej near Skodsborgbakken commemorates resistance fighter Ib Mogens Gundelach. A bust of Carl Ottosen stands in the garden in front of the spa hotel at Skodsborg Strandvej 139, commemorating the founder of Skodsborg Badesanatorium. These sites and the villas offer different ways to explore Skodsborg’s history—not only as a timeline, but also through the townscape.

Woodland and marshland trails

SkodsborgRuten is a route for exercise and nature experiences. It runs through Jægersborg Hegn, the northern part of Jægersborg Dyrehave and Raadvad, and also passes through part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Parforce Hunting Landscape in North Zealand. The route starts and ends at Skodsborg Kurhotel og Spa in Skodsborg. This makes it easy to include a clearly defined route with several landscape and local points of interest in your excursion plans.

Nearby, you can explore Bøllemosen on a path around the marsh or cross it on a boardwalk; there are several places to sit along the boardwalk. A marked yellow trail runs through Bøllemosen and forms a four-kilometre loop through the forest.

KulNaturhuset is located by Skodsborg Station. It offers the opportunity to take part in herb walks, lectures, music in nature, and various exercise and sports activities. To visit Jægersborg Hegn, you can start your trip at Skodsborg Station: train and bus connections are available there, and a large car park is nearby.

Plan your stay

When choosing Skodsborg as a destination, you can focus on what interests you: Strandpark and the bathing jetty are suited to a coastal stay; the grotto, villas and places of remembrance tell the story of the town; and SkodsborgRuten and Bøllemosen offer different nature trails. KulNaturhuset adds organised activities to these options. If you are looking for accommodation, first consider which of these aspects matters most for your stay; this will help you choose a destination that fits your actual plans.
