Rungsted Kyst offers a range of ways to spend your days outdoors, by the water or enjoying culture. Marked hiking and running trails, cycling on paths, golf, the beach and the harbour each offer a different focus; Rungstedlund adds a museum and a bird sanctuary to the mix. When planning your trip, you can choose from a range of interests: Would you like to plan longer or shorter walks, focus on golf or harbour life, or explore Karen Blixen’s story and nature conservation?

Out and About in the Forest and on the Golf Course

In Rungsted Hegn and Folehave, there are three marked hiking or running routes measuring 9.5, 5.2 and 2.4 kilometres. The distances range from the shortest to a medium-length and the longest route, making it possible to compare them by distance. Check the trail markings and current local conditions before setting out. The differences between the three distances are not equal: the increase from 2.4 to 5.2 kilometres is 2.8 kilometres, while the increase from 5.2 to 9.5 kilometres is 4.3 kilometres. So the jump to the longest route is greater.

Cycling is permitted on paths and trails in Folehave, including the northern section, Rungsted Hegn; you must stay on the paths. Also pay attention to local signs and temporary restrictions.

Golf also has a specific visitor requirement: Rungsted Golf Klub accepts green-fee guests with a maximum handicap of 30. The green-fee information applies to 2026; visitor conditions may change, so it is advisable to check before your round. The golf course is set in natural surroundings, with varied terrain, trees, shrubs, lakes and streams.

Harbour and Beach: Two Different Attractions

Rungsted Havn is Denmark’s third-largest marina, with 850 berths; the number may change over time. Along the popular harbour promenade, cosy shops and inviting restaurants are paired with views of boats and maritime life. The offerings of individual businesses may change; if you want to visit a particular shop or restaurant, check its current offerings. Rungsted Beach has fine sand, bathing jetties, shallow water and beach volleyball. Seasonal facilities at the beach may vary.

Karen Blixen: Museum and Bird Sanctuary

Rungstedlund is the historic home of the Dinesen family. Karen Blixen was born there in 1885 and died there in 1962; today, the house is a museum where her original rooms are on display. The bird sanctuary at Rungstedlund is a separate nature attraction: it covers 15 hectares and was established by Karen Blixen in 1958. The museum tells the story of Karen Blixen’s home, while the bird sanctuary reflects her contribution to nature conservation.
