Hjortespringkilen reveals a green side of Herlev: this protected, distinctive natural area includes wooded areas and several lakes with wildlife. Hjortespringkilen has 2.4 kilometres of separate horse-riding trails. If you prefer to explore on foot, Herlev has six signposted walking and hiking routes, ranging from 2 to 10 kilometres. Gammelgaard is Herlev Municipality’s exhibition centre for contemporary art, presenting three to four changing exhibitions throughout the year. Herlev Church brings together architectural and art history: the church is a late-medieval Gothic building with two wall paintings. They were created by the Isefjord Workshop under the direction of a so-called Isefjord Master or Vallensbæk Painter. The church also hosts concerts featuring new and older music. In the Music Park, instruments arranged for people to play together invite visitors to make music.
The Saxbo building is associated with Nathalie Krebs’s pioneering work and with local cultural and industrial history. The ceramics company Saxbo was based in Herlev from 1937 to 1968.
