A 700-metre-long sandy beach, a theatre designed by Arne Jacobsen and a racecourse with a history dating back to 1910 give Klampenborg several reasons to visit. Jægersborg Dyrehave offers another side of the trip: ancient oaks and several species of deer. When looking for a holiday rental, it helps to decide first whether the beach, architecture, equestrian sports or nature should shape your stay.

Landscape, deer and horse-drawn carriage rides

Jægersborg Dyrehave is known for its ancient oaks. Around 2,000 red deer, fallow deer and sika deer live there. The park is part of the former royal hunting grounds within the Parforce Hunting Landscape in North Zealand. Tailor your choice to whether you are mainly interested in wildlife and old trees or the historical context of the hunting park.

For orientation: The Jægersborg Hegn til Dyrehaven route passes Klampenborg station. Check the route and trail conditions before setting out. At Peter Liepsvej, in front of Klampenborgporten, you can hire a horse-drawn carriage driven by a coachman. Availability and booking arrangements may change; check them in advance.

Bellevue: Beach and architecture

Bellevue is a 700-metre-long sandy beach in Klampenborg. Bellevue Strandpark has public toilets, a kiosk and a lifeguard during the swimming season. Bellevue Strandbad and its buildings were designed by Arne Jacobsen. Facilities and lifeguard services may change; if any of these services are important for your visit, check the latest information in advance.

Theatre and culture

The Bellevue Teatret on Strandvejen in Klampenborg is a theatre built in 1936 and designed by Arne Jacobsen. It stages plays and hosts concerts and salons. A guided tour explores the theatre’s history. Dates and availability may change; check what is on offer in advance. The 1936 building and today’s programme appeal to different interests: you can admire the architecture or look for plays, concerts and salons.

Horse racing and amusement park

Klampenborg Galopbane opened on 1 June 1910 and has held horse races continuously ever since. Today, it is Denmark’s only racecourse devoted exclusively to flat racing. The Bucherer Derby is run over 2,400 metres. The Taittinger Skandinavisk Ladies Cup is contested by female amateur jockeys; the winner receives her body weight in Taittinger Rosé Champagne. Damernes Dag includes a competition for the best-dressed outfit with a hat.

If you are coming for a particular race day, check the date and programme in advance; both may change. The racecourse is within walking distance of Klampenborg and Ordrup stations. There is a stop for bus route 388 directly in front of the main entrance. Transport services may change; check the connection before travelling.

Bakken in Dyrehaven is the world’s oldest amusement park. It has 36 rides; the number may change. As a guide to choosing, it is clearly different from the racecourse: here, the focus is on rides, while the racecourse is all about racing and race days.
