Eleven relief stones along Farum Søsti make the area’s characteristic flora and fauna a recurring theme along the route. Farum combines this connection to nature with marked hiking trails, the birdlife at Farum Sø, and a distinctive architectural history. When choosing where to stay, you can decide whether trails and landscapes or buildings and cultural history should take centre stage.

Trails, Birdlife and Water

Farum Sø is home to a diverse range of birdlife, including the Common Goldeneye and the Goosander. The Farum forests have three marked hiking trails. One specifically described route is the 6.5 km Terkelskov and Nyvang hiking trail. It passes through hilly terrain with forest lakes, the Fileten Arboretum and Ravnehullet. Farum is the best starting point for activities in Terkelskov.

There are three marked hiking trails to choose from in the Farum forests; the Terkelskov and Nyvang trail is a specific option, covering 6.5 km through hilly terrain. Farum Sø is also home to Doktorens bugt, the smallest bathing spot in Furesø Municipality.

Architecture and History

Stavnsholt Church offers several specific points of interest for architecture enthusiasts. Johan Otto von Spreckelsen won the architectural competition for the church. It was completed and ready for its inauguration on 23 August 1981. Its interior has an almost square floor plan and a cube-shaped space with chamfered corners. The competition-winning design, construction history and spatial form reveal different aspects of the building, without requiring a visit inside.

Farumgaard is located right by Farum Sø and has a preserved Baroque garden. In October 2023, public access through the park was restored via a path along the east side of the Baroque garden. As this information describes the situation at that time, check current access before visiting.

Farum Midtpunkt offers a different architectural perspective. The housing development was built in 1972–75 as one of the most experimental of its time. Its concept combines the privacy of a detached house with a shared exterior. Here, then, the focus is not on a single historic building, but on how communal living can be conceived architecturally.

For an older building history, visit Farum Landsby: Frederik IV had the Rytterskolen built there in 1726; Madam Schieves hus was built in 1755 as a bourgeois house. The two dates mark different construction periods and building types. Together, they complement the modern residential architecture with the history of the village.

Local Culture and Exhibitions

Cornelen in Stavnsholt recreates a typical rural farm shop from the 1930s. Coffee and tea are sold in the café; check before your trip to see if they are available. This combines the historical display with a specific café offering, whose availability you can confirm in advance.

Farum Kulturhus has five galleries and a children’s gallery. You can visit exhibitions there by local, national and international artists. Individual exhibitions and programmes may change, so it is advisable to check the current programme if you are planning a visit for a specific date.
