Snogebæk combines a sheltered harbor with walks by the water, along the beach and on the coast. When planning, it is worth distinguishing the short loop through the town from the beach paths and nearby Hundsemyre: the marsh has special seasonal access hours, while the harbor walk runs along the main street, across the footbridge and by the water. The coast south of the town also has its own focal point at Broens Odde.
The Harbor and the Town’s History
The reefs of Salthammerrev and Brorev provide good protection for Snogebæk harbor. The approach direction allows safe and easy access to the harbor. The harbor is also part of a walk: a short route leads there from the main street, across the footbridge and back along the water. This makes the harbor not just a destination, but part of a clearly defined loop. The production of the chocolate that is now world-famous began in Snogebæk; this history gives the town a cultural connection in addition to its coastal landscape.
Walks by the Water and Beach
If you want to continue beyond the short walk through town, you can extend your stroll from Snogebæk’s main street toward Balka Beach. There, the route follows soft sand and the tranquil bay. Short walks along the beach are also possible; you can follow the coast toward Balka and Dueodde. On the Kyststien, Snogebæk is a natural stop between the sandy south and the coastal towns to the north.
Marshland and Coastal Fishing
Nearby Hundsemyre, a protected marsh, lies northwest of Snogebæk. Reeds, bodies of water and scrub provide good conditions for birdlife. Here, the marshland and birdlife shape the visit, unlike a walk at the harbor or beach. Visitors can walk along the path through the area outside the closure period from 15 March to 15 July. Check the current access conditions before your visit.
Broens Odde lies south of Snogebæk. Reefs, rocks and sand provide good conditions for coastal fishing there. This makes it easy to distinguish this area’s focus from the birdlife at Hundsemyre.
A Broader View of Bornholm
On Bornholm, the NaturBornholm experience center features dinosaurs, live crocodiles, an aquarium and a bison exhibition. As exhibitions may change, check what is currently on display before visiting. Bornholm’s smokehouse history began in 1866: the first smokehouse opened in Gudhjem that year, and herring has been smoked there ever since. Hasle Smokehouse is the last smokehouse on Bornholm where fish is smoked traditionally using open chimneys and alder wood.
Østerlars Round Church is another cultural destination on Bornholm. When no service is taking place, visitors can enter the church for a fee and climb up to the roof beams. Check the current visitor information before your visit.
Getting to Bornholm
