Near Knudsker, the erratic boulder Bleghald is located in Knudsker Plantation. Large parts of the stone are covered in green moss; its surface can change. The closest you can get to Bleghald by car is via Blemmelyngvejen. There is space for exactly one car opposite the Blemmelyng property. From there, a 700-metre footpath leads north along forest trails.

Access and paths in the surrounding area

Signs at both ends of Plantagevej prohibit entry by motor vehicles, heavy mopeds, tractors and work machines. You may use the road on foot or by bicycle. Check the current signs on site before planning your route.

A general rule applies to private forests in the wider region: you may be there from 6 a.m. until sunset. Walking and cycling are permitted only on roads and paths. Trails created solely by frequent foot traffic are not included.

Bleghald or the gravel route?

In its final sections, the “Klippeøen rundt” gravel cycling route passes through Knudsker Plantation and Onsbæk Plantation, as well as the area around Arnager and the airport. Access to Bleghald and the gravel route have different focuses: one is a footpath along forest trails, while the other is a route through several named areas. Check the current route conditions before setting out.

Bornholm as the wider island region

Bornholm can be reached by ferry, plane, bus or train. The ferry crossing from Ystad in Sweden to Bornholm takes one hour and 20 minutes. If you plan to use this connection, check the operator’s current timetable.

Bornholm also offers destinations with distinctive scenery: Ekkodalen in Almindingen is Bornholm’s largest rift valley. From the cliffs above Opal Lake, you can look out over the surrounding area, the Baltic Sea and the ruins of Hammershus Castle. These places add other island-wide attractions to Knudsker’s local nature and cycling offerings.

The NaturBornholm Experience Centre features dinosaurs, live crocodiles, an aquarium and a bison exhibition; the offering may change. Bornholm’s Medieval Centre is a 15-hectare open-air museum that presents Bornholm in the 14th century in an engaging, interactive way.

The smokehouses also represent different aspects of the island’s history. Bornholm’s first smokehouse opened in Gudhjem in 1866, and herring has been smoked there ever since. Hasle Smokehouse is the last smokehouse on Bornholm where fish is smoked traditionally over open chimneys using alder wood.

When choosing your base, you can start with what you’d like to focus on: Knudsker and its surroundings, or other destinations on Bornholm. This lets you choose a holiday apartment to suit the kind of stay you have in mind.
