Černov’s history can be explored through several clearly distinct traces: a designated cultural monument, a school building with a long history of use, and Cvilínek, a mining and ore-processing settlement dating from the 13th century. They are joined by the Obchůzka lucek as intangible cultural heritage and the designated viewpoint of Šandův kopec. When planning your trip, you can decide whether you would like to focus mainly on architectural history, archaeology, folk culture, or landscape.
Architectural and School History
The school building in Černov gained a second floor in 1884. The school operated for more than a century and closed in 1977. The two dates mark different points in time: 1884 marks a structural addition, while 1977 marks the end of the school’s operation. Together, they provide a concise overview of the building’s development and use.
Another building has also been designated as architecturally valuable: the farmhouse at No. 7. The Boží muka in Černov is designated as an immovable cultural monument. These classifications draw attention to different aspects of the built heritage—from the history of a school building to the designated significance of individual structures. Those interested in local architectural history will find more here than just a single point of reference in time.
Cvilínek: Mining and Ore Processing
Cvilínek is an exceptionally well-preserved mining and ore-processing settlement dating from the 13th century. It lies in the valley of the upper reaches of the Kamenička, 550 m northeast of the center of Černov. Alongside the history of the school and architecture, it offers an archaeological focus with a concrete connection to the extraction and processing of ore.
At Cvilínek, well-preserved wooden channels and channel systems carried water into wooden basins where ore was washed. The water supply and ore processing were directly connected: the channels carried the water, and the basins were used to wash the ore. This connection gives Cvilínek a distinctive place in local history and sets the settlement apart from the buildings mentioned in Černov.
A Folk-Culture Tradition
Alongside the architectural and archaeological themes is the Obchůzka lucek in Černov and Chrástov. At the end of 2024, it was added to the List of Intangible Elements of Traditional Folk Culture of the Vysočina Region under number 12/2024, in recognition of its uniqueness and authenticity. The tradition complements the history of the buildings and the mining settlement with a different perspective: the focus here is on an inherited element of intangible cultural heritage, not a building or settlement.
A Landscape Highlight
Šandův kopec is designated as a significant viewpoint in Černov. This adds a landscape element to the historical themes. When planning your trip, you can easily distinguish between the different highlights: the school tells the story of architectural development and a long period of operation, Cvilínek connects settlement history with ore processing, and the Obchůzka lucek represents traditional folk culture. Šandův kopec adds a landscape highlight. Consider which of these perspectives is of particular interest to you when planning your stay and looking for suitable hotels in Cernov as a travel destination.
