Líšná lies in the northeastern, mountainous terrain of the Žďár nad Sázavou District. Two distinct settlement locations give the description of the village a clear topographic outline: Horní Líšná lies on a slope on the left, elevated bank of the Fryšávka, while Dolní Líšná lies in the valley. The stream is also called Vříšť and flows through the cadastral area of Líšná. If you see the name Fryšávka in connection with Horní or Dolní Líšná, it refers to the same stream, which is also called Vříšť.
Stream, Forest and Protected Area
Líšná lies in the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area, including Zones I, II and III. Young alluvial deposits with grass cover lie along the banks of the Fryšávka. Líšná also has 211 hectares of forest and 0.74 hectares of managed ponds. These figures refer to different aspects: the protected area places the village within its landscape context, while forest area, managed ponds and riverbank deposits identify individual landscape features. The area figures show 211 hectares of forest compared with 0.74 hectares of managed ponds; the deposits form a further landscape feature alongside the stream.
Village Structure and History
The first known mention of Líšná dates from 1500; a surviving site plan from 1741 documents the historic village square of Horní Líšná. The earliest written record of the village and the depiction of a particular village square thus stand side by side as distinct historical references.
The houses of Horní Líšná form a loosely laid-out village square with a pond. The historic centre of Líšná is part of the Fryšávka’s main compositional axis. The village square describes how the houses are arranged, while the Fryšávka appears as an axis in the settlement structure.
Líšná belongs to the folk architecture region of „dům českomoravské vrchoviny – horácký dům“ (the house of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands – Horácko house). Historically, Dolní Líšná was home to a seigneurial hammer mill. Regional building culture and a historic industrial site therefore represent different aspects of the village’s history.
Rock Formations and Marked Routes
Nearby is Černá skála, an isolated rock formation of buližník (siliceous rock) in the forest, about two kilometres from Líšná. It adds a specific rock site to the description of the landscape, alongside the stream, forest and settlement structure.
A blue-marked hiking route is designated in Líšná; check its markings locally before setting out. A section of the “Walk around Sněžné” hiking route runs from Daňkovice to Líšná. There are beautiful views along this section; check trail conditions and viewpoints locally. The marked cycling route 4338 continues from Líšná towards Daňkovice, and you should also check its signage before setting off. The difference in direction is useful for orientation: the cycling route runs from Líšná towards Daňkovice, while the hiking section mentioned runs from Daňkovice to Líšná.
