A weathered fissure divides the rock face of Rozštípená Skála over a length of about 10 metres and a width of about 2 metres. The natural monument lies in the Sázava Valley and is protected by the state. Hamry Nad Sázavou thus offers opportunities to experience both nature and culture, alongside specific routes through the village and its landscape. If you are planning a stay, you can choose between a longer circular route, a geological natural monument and insights into local ironworking.

Landscape and Natural Monument

The upper reaches of the Sázava and its tributaries shape the landscape; the waterways flow through numerous ponds. Rozštípená Skála adds a striking geological feature: its weathered fissure divides the rock face and makes its approximate dimensions easy to appreciate. The rock face has climbing routes of all difficulty levels. The protected natural monument and the routes offer two different perspectives on the same rock: its geological distinctiveness and the experience of climbing.

Circular Route and Outdoor Activities

The marked Hamerský vycházkový okruh is a 15-kilometre circular route around Hamry nad Sázavou, designed for visitors. Its length and loop shape give the outing a clear framework: you can explore the area on one continuous circuit. The entire route can be cycled. When there is enough snow, cross-country skiing is also possible on the same circular route; this use is explicitly dependent on snow conditions. Mamlase, beyond Hamroň, can be reached via the Hamerský vycházkový okruh. In addition to offering exercise, the route therefore provides a specific connection to a sculpture.

Ironworking and Sculptures

Šlakhamr features exhibitions on the local region’s ironworking tradition. During regular guided tours, you can see the water wheel in operation, powering the water hammer. Šlakhamr was originally a medieval iron mill; later, the site operated as a grain mill until the Second World War. Its history can therefore be divided into two distinct periods of use: first as an iron mill, then as a grain mill. At Šlakhamr, a technical insight during the tour meets the historical sequence of its uses.

The monumental sculpture Kůň stands by the horse paddock of the Na Ranči riding club in Hamry nad Sázavou, at the turn-off to Pension Na Ranči. It depicts a horse trying to pull a cart out of the water. Hamroň, by contrast, is an abstract sculpture that combines a snail and a frog. Their motifs are clearly different: Kůň depicts a specific scene, while Hamroň combines two animal forms in an abstract work.

Getting Around the Municipality

The Žďár nad Sázavou–Šlakhamry bus route runs through the entire municipality, serves six stops there and ends in the Šlakhamry district. If you are planning to travel by bus, check the timetable before your visit. The Posázavská Cycle Route No. 19 also runs through the entire municipality, as far as Pension Najdek, and then continues to Sázava. These routes offer two different reference points for planning: a bus connection through the municipality and a cycle route that continues towards Sázava.
