Milíčovice offers several distinct ways to experience a trip: the architectural history of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the historic Althanský Inn and trails through the landscape. You can therefore choose between focusing on local history, nature watching or cycling. The church and inn tell different stories, while woodland and field paths add nature experiences to the cultural themes.

Church and Inn: Different Stories

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (Kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie) was built as a cemetery chapel in 1760–1762 and converted to its present form in 1860. It has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1958. It is also a filial church of the Roman Catholic parish of Lukov u Znojma. If you would like to visit the church or attend a service, check current visiting arrangements in advance.

The Althanský Inn offers a different historical focus. This cultural monument was built around 1750 at the instigation of Michal Antonín Althann and served as a relay station for stagecoaches. The Althann family coat of arms is still displayed above the entrance. Unlike the church, the focus here is on the patron, the surviving family coat of arms and historical travel. Those interested in transport and architectural history will find a second concrete point of interest alongside the church’s history.

Cultural Landscape and Trails

The fields also preserve traces of buildings: small religious structures, including Boží muka (wayside shrines), still stand along old field paths in the cadastral area of Milíčovice. These landmarks in the cultural landscape complement the view of the church and the Althanský Inn; local history is visible here not only in individual buildings.

Peaceful woodland and field paths around Milíčovice are suitable for easy outings towards the natural areas of Podyjí and for nature watching. This offers a different focus from exploring the historic buildings: here, the landscape and observation take centre stage. Trail conditions may change seasonally; check them before setting out if your plans depend on a particular route.

Cycling Around Milíčovice

Cyclists can easily connect from Milíčovice to regional cycle route 5007; the international long-distance EuroVelo 13 – Stezka železné opony (Iron Curtain Trail) is also accessible in the area. For general orientation, the regional connection and the long-distance cycle route offer different options. Before your ride, check the numbering and course of route 5007, as well as the current EuroVelo 13 signage.

A Traditional Festive Occasion

The traditional Posvícení also adds a festive occasion to the architectural and landscape themes. For 2026, the regional events calendar lists the festival, featuring a procession through the village accompanied by the Sebranka band. If you would like to plan your trip around Posvícení, check the specific event date in advance. For travellers interested in local customs, the event offers a different focus from buildings or outdoor excursions.
