Dobročkovice appeals to two distinct travel interests: the history of the village, with its church, art and archaeological traces, and the rural landscape of the surrounding area. Long-standing Easter customs and the local dance tradition are also part of its appeal. While the historical evidence spans different periods, the “Okolo Dobročkovic” circular route offers views of fields, small patches of woodland and nearby villages. This allows you to choose between cultural history and the experience of the surrounding countryside.

Church, Art and Archaeological Traces

The Church of All Saints in Dobročkovice was originally built in the Gothic style in 1348. An altarpiece in a church in the village is by Josef Zelený, an academic painter from Brno. Dobročkovice is therefore linked to both a construction date and an artist’s name: one provides a specific reference to the building’s history, while the other relates to a single work of art.

The archaeological evidence also includes different kinds of finds. Bronze and gold objects dating from approximately 1800–1500 BC were found in Dobročkovice; they are now held in the collections of the Moravian Museum in Brno. A Roman coin provides evidence of traces of Celtic settlement and the Roman-Germanic period. The period from approximately 1800 to 1500 BC places the metal objects in a pre-Christian timeframe, while the coin marks traces of two other historical periods.

The “Zahrada za obecním hostincem” archaeological site in Dobročkovice has clearly defined boundaries and is classified as UAN I. During work near the new vicarage in 1927–1928, numerous urn fragments and roof tiles bearing the coats of arms of former lords of Dobročkovice were found. The designation of a clearly defined site and finds uncovered during specific construction work represent two different forms of archaeological evidence.

Easter Customs and Dance

Long-standing Easter customs in Dobročkovice include hrkání and mrskút. The Slovak folk dance verbuňk is also performed in the village. Ethnographic field research conducted in 2013 and published in 2014 describes Hody as the village’s most significant folklore event and main opportunity for dancing. These named Easter traditions, a dance form and a folklore event each represent a different aspect of local customs. If you are considering visiting for Hody, check the latest dates before making plans.

Circular Route and Getting There

The “Okolo Dobročkovic” circular route passes through the quiet rural landscape around the village and offers views of fields, small patches of woodland and nearby villages. These views may vary depending on the weather and time of year. The route has a different focus from the history of the church and archaeological finds: it turns your attention to the surrounding area and its rural landscape.
