A chapel with a freestanding bell tower and the restored Sušárna tabáku tobacco-drying house give Kozojídky a distinct architectural and historical character. Easter customs and a seasonal winter activity add to the village’s character. If you are planning a stay, you can consider architectural heritage, landscape and seasonal activities as different points of focus.

Fields, vineyards and Bílé Karpaty

Kozojídky lies on the edge of the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. Extensive fields stretch around the village, giving way to vineyards. Two different spatial relationships come together here: the municipality lies at the edge of the protected area, while the agricultural surroundings shift from fields to vineyards. This landscape aspect complements the view of the chapel, houses and local traditions, and may be just as important when deciding where to stay as individual buildings.

Chapel, bell tower and folk architecture

St. Martin’s Chapel was built between 1968 and 1971; a freestanding bell tower stands beside it. Several houses in Kozojídky display the style of rural folk architecture. The Sušárna tabáku is a particularly telling example. The restored building regained its original appearance through the partial reconstruction of historic features. It is not a listed cultural monument, but it illustrates the way of life and folk architecture of Slovácko in Moravia in the first half of the 20th century. The chapel can be clearly dated by its construction years, while the Sušárna is best understood in terms of its regional cultural and historical context; the houses broaden the view of rural folk architecture beyond a few highlighted buildings.

Easter customs and wine exhibitions

During the Easter Klepání, participants replace church bells with wooden clappers. For Klepání and Řehtání, the meeting place is always at the Chapel of St. Martin. A specific custom and a clearly named meeting place thus connect with the village’s architectural history. Fašaňk is celebrated regularly in Kozojídky and is another recurring custom. Wine exhibitions are also part of the history of local associations: throughout its history, the Český zahrádkářský svaz Kozojídky held these exhibitions annually, with the exception of two years. If you want to plan your trip around a specific event, check the current dates.

Cycling route, cross-country skiing and sports area

Different seasonal conditions are available for active days. A local cycling route runs from Kozojídky and connects to the Strážnická cyklostezka in neighbouring Hroznová Lhota. As local route conditions may change temporarily, it is advisable to check before setting out. Cross-country skiing is possible in winter, although snow conditions vary. A sports area with a playing field and children’s corner has been built on the southern edge of the village. If you plan to visit, check current access in advance, as the facilities may change.
