Čečelovice combines a pond landscape typical of the Blatensko region with viewpoints and local folklore.

Ponds, Hills and Local Legends

There are many ponds in and around Čečelovice, as is typical of the entire Blatensko region. To the southeast of the village rises the 582-metre-high hill Žďárka. From there, you can look out over the landscapes of Strakonicko and Horažďovicko, as well as north towards the Blatensko landscape. On the summit of Žďárka is a group of large boulders known as Kočičí kamna. Several local legends are associated with this rocky site. If you are interested in local folklore as well as scenery on your trip, Kočičí kamna offers a tangible point of reference.

A Viewpoint Near the Cycle Route

The Turistický přístřešek is in the southern part of Čečelovice, near cycle route 1064. From there, you can enjoy views across much of the Šumava. Information boards identify the surrounding hills and places, adding specific names to the expansive view. Check the shelter’s condition on site; the boards may not always be available.

These two local viewpoints offer different experiences: Žďárka combines a view with a rock formation and legends, while at the Turistický přístřešek, boards naming hills and places add context to the view across the Šumava. This makes it easy to distinguish an interest in local folklore from orienting yourself using named landscape features.

Cycling Route and Regional Observation Tower

The 2024 edition of the Čečelovický Drsoň duathlon included a 3 km running course and a 20 km cycling circuit. The cycling section was therefore 17 km longer than the running course. These route details apply to the 2024 edition.

The Pětnice observation tower is in the wider area around Čečelovice, on the Volyně high ground. Its viewing platform is 25 metres above the ground and offers views of Blatensko, Horažďovicko, Strakonicko, the Brdy and the Šumava. From Blatná, the tower can be reached by road in the direction of Horažďovice; after Záboří, turn towards Čečelovice. Parking is available near the tower, by a forest road. Road and parking conditions can change, so check the situation before setting off.

Pětnice and Žďárka also differ in their location: Žďárka lies southeast of Čečelovice, while Pětnice is in the wider region. This lets you distinguish between a hill southeast of the village and a regional observation tower.
