Archaeology and Gold Panning

The Mohylník U bílých kamenů site is designated as a significant archaeological location in Bezdědovice. It is an early medieval burial ground with three burial mounds. Investigations of two mounds in the early 20th century uncovered remains of cremation burials. In a cremation burial, the deceased is cremated and the remains are then interred.

The Rýžoviště zlata cultural site preserves an extensive field of gold-washing mounds, pits and channels on both banks of the Závišínský potok stream. The burial ground and the gold-washing field represent different cultural-historical perspectives: in the first, burial remains are the specific evidence; in the second, the landscape is shaped by mounds, pits and channels. This makes it possible to consider early burial history and traces of gold washing as distinct points of interest.

Architectural History in Paštiky

The Baroque Church of St John the Baptist in Paštiky was built from 1747 to 1753 to designs by Kilián Ignác Dienzenhofer. The cemetery chapel beside the church was also designed by Dientzenhofer and was converted into the Hildprandt family crypt in 1846. The details reveal two historical layers: the church dates from the 18th-century building period, while the chapel’s history is shaped above all by its later change of function into a crypt. The shared design connects the two buildings architecturally, while the chapel’s conversion makes a later stage of use visible.

Cycling Route and Getting There

Official cycle loop No. 2 is a circular route from Blatná via Paštiky, Chobot, Myštice, Lom, Škvořetice and Buzice, returning to Blatná. It passes through Paštiky. On the section from Blatná via Paštiky, the route initially follows Route 311, switches to cycle route 1062 shortly before Myštice, and turns onto Route 31 at Lom. For navigation, it is important to distinguish between them: No. 2 refers to the entire loop, while 311, 1062 and 31 are the route numbers for the section described. When planning a circular ride, the return to Blatná is key: it distinguishes the loop from a simple route ending at the last place mentioned. Paštiky is part of the loop. Check the route and route numbers again before setting out.

There is no ticket office at Bezdědovice railway station; tickets for passenger services are sold on board the train. If you plan to travel by rail, allow for buying your ticket on board. As station services can change, check the latest information before travelling.

When looking for a holiday apartment, you can decide what matters most: archaeology in Bezdědovice, the architectural history of Paštiky, or cycle loop No. 2?
