Discover Stachy through a range of interests: nature, architectural history and winter sports. Are historic houses and local history your main focus, or would you rather explore the high moor and hiking trails? The Zadov-Churáňov ski area is another specific option that may shape your plans.
High Moor and Trails Around Stachy
Malý Polec is a high moor below Churáňovský vrch, at an elevation of 1,108 to 1,183 metres. The area lies about one kilometre from Zadov and has been designated a natural monument since 1992 to protect endangered plants and animals. For nature enthusiasts, it is a clearly defined landscape feature: the high moor, elevation and protected status each describe the area from a different perspective.
From Zadov, Malý Polec can be reached by a hiking trail towards Zlatá Studna. Check the route locally before setting out. Stašské Square is the starting point for numerous hiking trails; from there, you can choose according to your intended destination, without being tied to a particular route.
There is also a connection to nature in the square by the church: its lawn contains a protected site for boletes. As mushrooms are seasonal, this aspect depends on the time of year. The high moor and the site in the square therefore differ both in landscape and in their connection to the town.
Churches, Architectural History and Local Museum
The Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary was built between 1842 and 1849. Inside is a crystal chandelier that recalls Stachy's glassmaking past. The construction period and the chandelier offer two perspectives on the same religious building: its origins in the 19th century and its connection to local glassmaking. The Baroque Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows dates from 1808. Comparing their dates places the two religious buildings in context without reducing them to the same period.
The Stachy conservation area is of interest for its historic buildings: most date from the 17th to the 19th century. In the eastern part of the municipality, there is also a designated conservation area consisting of a group of Šumava-style houses, some built using log construction. Here, the focus is not on the construction date of a single religious building, but on a group of houses and their building style.
The Pošumavské Fire Museum in Stachy is dedicated to the history of firefighting and occupies two floors. Exhibits include fire engines, fire pumps, uniforms, and historic firefighting technology and equipment. Another exhibition on the history of Stachy features craft tools, historical objects, and items from Stachy and the surrounding area. Thus, the history of firefighting technology and local everyday and craft history are presented as distinct themes. Check the museum’s current visitor information before your visit.
Winter Sports and Accommodation Planning
The Zadov-Churáňov ski area has seven runs, most of which are rated easy to intermediate. Together, they are 4.5 kilometres long; the ski area operates seasonally. These details give a clear impression of the ski area’s size and range of difficulty, while Malý Polec and the historic buildings offer other points of interest. When looking for accommodation, you can first decide which of these interests will shape your trip, then compare hotels according to your own needs.
