Two distinct cultural periods meet in Pěčnov: the chapel was consecrated in 1873, while an international group of artists created stone works in 2017. The area is also hilly, and two cycling circuits pass through the village.

Chapel and Stone Art

The Chapel of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary in Pěčnov was built and consecrated in 1873. It contains a folk Neo-Gothic altar with statues of the Virgin Mary, Saint John of Nepomuk and Saint Leonard. Saint Florian is depicted on the façade. The chapel thus combines a specific construction date with concrete details of its fittings: figures on the altar inside and a depiction of a saint on the exterior.

A different artistic feature took shape in 2017, when an international group of artists met in Pěčnov and carved various images into stones. The images are called cosmograms, and the works are known as “Pěčnov Stone Spirals.” Alongside the chapel’s history, this provides a second point of reference in time: 1873 marks the building and consecration, while 2017 marks the collaborative artistic work on the stones.

Landscape and Cycling Circuits

Pěčnov lies in the foothills of the Šumava Mountains. The surrounding area is hilly and wooded, with grassy areas. This gives you a different basis for choosing the village than its chapel and stone works: here, the focus is on the surrounding landscape, not on a single building or work of art. If you are weighing up cultural and landscape interests, you can thus explore two different sides of the village.

Cycling is also a specific feature of the area: the regional cycling circuit “From Vimperk to the Beauties of the Foothills of Šumava” passes through Pěčnov, as does the “Through the Land of Traveller Vyšata and Around the Šumava Foothills Menhirs” circuit. These named routes are points of interest for cycling travellers who would like to include Pěčnov in their choice of destination.

Facilities in the Village

The multipurpose pergola in Pěčnov offers covered seating, sanitary facilities and a place to barbecue. If you are planning to use it during your stay, check the reservation conditions in advance, as they may change. This allows you to take the facility into account when planning without assuming that it is available or that a reservation has been made.

The multipurpose sports court is available seasonally and is equipped for volleyball, nohejbal, football and tennis. Its seasonal availability is important to consider if you would like to include one of these sports in your plans. The Pěčnov pub is on the ground floor of the municipal office and has 50 seats; this information helps you keep the venue in mind without making any assumptions about its opening hours.

Plan a Stay That Suits You

When looking for a holiday apartment in Pěčnov, you can choose your destination based on your interests: the chapel and its fittings, the stone works, cycling or the municipal facilities. Not all of these details are subject to the same planning considerations: the sports court is explicitly available seasonally, and you should check the pergola’s reservation conditions in advance. This makes it possible to match the village’s features to your travel dates and preferred activities.

An invitation was issued for the 19th Meeting of Small Brass Bands in Pěčnov in 2026. If this event is relevant to your travel plans, check the dates in advance.
